Hey everyone,

I've been using PCs forever, but always heard that Macs were good for music recording and film stuff.

Fed up with the slow performance of my current desktop, I'm looking to get a used, refurbished or inexpensive Mac for the ProTools software I just bought and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I might use Final Cut Pro on it too.

I don't really know too much about Macs; was looking through the apple website and saw the mac mini, is that any good?

I'm open to desktops or laptops and my price range is under $1000. Could get something used, maybe even 5 years old or more if that would even work with the latest version of ProTools... Mac G5?

Please let me know any suggestions!!

A mini or iMac works fine. I have the base model iMac with extra ram and it has no problems with audio/video.
$50 worth of ram and a couple of firewire hard drives should be in your budget.

Do NOT get an old model like a G5.
Anything that is not an Intel chip or cannot run the current OS's will only cause you grief when software wont run on it.

Hi Tim, thanks a lot for the reply...I was almost going to get a G5!!

This is what they have available at my local store, is it any good:
Apple iMac MA710LL/A Desktop Computer

and this online:
Apple iMac MA590LL

Thanks again!!
