This link will take you to a newer mix that has some mids added to the guitars as requested by Gorty AND has the inclusion of a guest soloist.
Some drum fixing to come and a replacement for the up the middle distorted guitar and considerations needed re reverb, final touches sort of stuff, (where is that magic mix, master, pop sheen, contract button?), so please make some suggestions &/or comments.

Nice song Ray, the vocals remind me of a Ray Davies/Kinks sound-and I've been listening to the Kinks since I was a very little fellow, and think they are great. Rhythm guitars are a bit bright on my headphones anyway-especially when the vocal first comes in-and I have to love the sound of that TR-505 supplying the beats--(yeah, I have one too that I use a lot!)

I thought I suggested bringing the high-mids down a touch?? The guitars are bright, how are they panned rayc??...I love the use of hard left and hard right for two rhythm guitars. Perhaps if you can, widen the panning of the guitars??
I think the guest solo could definitely have some brightness added to it!

Keep it coming rayc! :)

I don't know if its my speakers, but this mix sounds like I'm listening to it on the radio. There is no low range frequencies at all, and the drums sound really flat (i dont know if thats the right word).

Anfontan,
Ah the TR505 - commonly referred to as a door stopper - unfairly in my view. The only limitation I find with it is my ability/patience to program it. Are you a 505 wiz? I've lsot the capability to sequence a song & store it in memory. I wiped all of the sequqnces I stored but can't get beyong 30 bars before I get a memory full message - that & I changed the batteries in July - only to find the ones in there were the ORIGINALS from when I was given it as a prez by the wife back in '86 or 7 so the battery section is a bit crusty. I'm trying to find someone to work on it - there's a mob in the UK that specialise in that era of machine but they are very disdainful of the 505 & won't even answer queries regarding it.
The 505 tone is bolstered by the fat drum loop preset in Blockfish - cute eh!
Thanks for the nice words too.
Gorty,
yeah you did. Ihad a savage cut in the mids which I levelled out. the guitar/s were recorded with the 'cello effect thingo to a single track in '90. I had to do some drastic mid cutting & high boosting to mask the effect a bit - this resulted in the overly bright guitras which are panned har R & L. BUT I'm struggling with something to do to the indiv git tracks to give them a point of difference so that the panning is as apparent as it is real.
I'll tweak the solo a little - I'll consult the guest 1st though.
bunkmusician,
The mid & bottom are a little MIA due to the EQing to address the effect. I'm tinkering with some restorative measures but am waiting for a revitalised drum track idea or two before applying it to the whole piece. Thanbks for the ideas.

Ray, with all due repsct bro, I think the other mix was better. This one sounds very bright and tinny. :o

I'm afraid I'm not very good at writing sequences for it either Ray, most of my older songs on soundclick are using the presets, slaving it to an old Ensoniq SQ-80 that is about the same vintage as the 505. I still use the SQ-80/TR-505 for working out the rough structures of a song, its so familiar to me after all these years.

By the way, if you are needing the manual for you're 505, I have one on PDF that I got from the Roland website-it's a bit over 12MBs so I can use yousendit to get it to you if you need it.

Does have a very The Kinks vibe to it. I have to agree with GregL sounds tinny.

Good performance and arrangement. Really nice guitar playing.

The mix sounds over processed... maybe some listening fatigue during mixing? Just asking since it happens to me all the time and I end up going back to a "bypass all plugs" mode.:o

Greg_L,
All respect accepted - Greg - nothing wrong with stating a fact - thanks for being straight up. I hope this is a little more rounded.
Anfontan,
Thanks for the offer - I have the original manual as well as the original box (I'm a bit like that). I'll have to get the little beatbeast seen to I suppose.
BushmasterM4,
I've alsways wanted to be kinky - ta.
XLR,
Thanks Tim ol'mate. Yeah I know what you mean about over processed - I should be able to remove a few things once I get a decent drum track sorted.
This link will take you to a newer mix with an alternate solo from the guest guitarist. I've actually processed the setero out a little to fatten things up.

Comments, reccos etc MOST welcome.

I'm listening to the new mix, and it still sounds thin compared to your previous stuff.

It does sound really hi happy...pretty thin. Go back, and listen to some of your other mixes....you've had way fuller mixes before, so you can easily tweak this. I hear all the parts, but the higher stuff is pretty prominent.

Solo is pretty cool....now get to tweaking....:D
