Hi,
I'm looking into putting together a little project studio in my home. Here's what I've been looking at getting:Mac Dual867Mhz, MOTU896 w/DP3, Mackie HR824's, AT4040, and a PreSonus BlueMax stereo compressor. Would my bases be covered as far as needing the tools I need to produce my own CD's? Instruments aren't an issue here. Obviously, it won't end up sounding like it was recorded through an SSL to 2" tape but I'm curious if I'm going to end up "needing" something later on.

What I have listed covers:vox mic, mic pre's(on the 896), recording media(hard drive), compressor, effects(in DP3), monitors. Are there any "must have in order to finish" items I need?

I do a lot of session work behind the drums but never have jumped into the "production" part of it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

how many pre amps have you got...if you're a drummer I guess you'll be recording them "live", so you'll need at least 3-4 pre-amps for that...a small mixer could help you out there, and be used for monitoring as well...how many i/o is the motu??again you'll need minimum of 3-4 (depends on how many mics on the kit) if you're doing drums live
You'll obviously need some recording software too...I use Cubase vst...many people don't use it anymore, coz they've switched to the new SX....The Cubase SL (light version of SX) might be worth having a look at......
But yeah...you look you're nearly there..
good luck

Roker,
The MOTU896 has 8 mic pre's and I have enough mics for the drums so they should be covered. As for software, I was thinking of using DP3.

Gidge,
How much is the RNC? Who makes it? Curious...

Thanks.
