Hey guys,
As you all know a really good mulit-band compressor with four bands plugin is about $400-$600, for instance, at waves audio. But I experimented around with what I have and it works just as well:

side note: I work in M-Powered Pro Tools 8.0.4cs2 and have a 2-band eq from Waves and compression available to me from Waves and/or Pro Tools.

1. Create 4 aux inputs in the session you're using to master (has all the songs). These will be each of the four eq bands being compressed. Assign inputs to an unused stereo bus, all the same, say Bus 11-12. Output goes to master fader. Assign output of audio track with songs to the same stereo bus signal (Bus 11-12).

2. Create a trim/gain on first plugin of the chain on each aux input. Then put 2 band eq on each aux input. Then put compression on each aux input.

3. For the 2band eq's, tailor the eq so that you have a high pass followed by a low pass filter, for each aux input. The high pass should start where you want that band to start, and the low pass should end where you want that band to end (use a lower Q so the paths cross each other by the time you've set where your frequency bands will be). Basically, you're allowing only a certain section of the eq thru each band. Make it so you've included everything from 40Hz up to around 20kHz. I used

1st band - 16 hz to 90 hz, attack 65, release 65
2nd band - 90 hz to 3.5 khz, attack 30, release 30
3rd band - 3.5 khz to 9.5 khz, attack 12, release 12
4th band - 9.5 khz to 16 khz, attack 7, release 7

Use knee of 0.5.

(Experiment around, this just sounds good to me, but you'll probably change whatever you hear differently.)

You can do a final eq later on the master fader to tailor your sound exactly.

That's a simple multiband compressor that's easy to use, instead of spending a lot of money on one.
