buget mics that sound good

Looking at the kind of mics you're used to using . . . I just think you might be a little disappointed with any of the options you've just mentioned.

Unless you're purposely seeking something that doesn't sound quite as good.

If you're just looking for something with a little more jacked-up highs, then I'd have to to say, of the ones you mentioned, the C1 and the AT4033 will give you a little of that . . . and they're probably about the best-sounding of the bunch, as well (particularly the 4033).

Thanks Gidge and DJL

for that bit of assurance. Excuse me again C9 for
posting in your thread.

4033, 4040 or 4050?
i heard her on my partners 4040 with a manley mono pre and she sounded great.. we didn't need to add any high end eq.. just a roll off at 100hz and a slight cut here and there and she sounded great.

the tlm193 seems to have a airry trype sound but it sounds a lil odd when i Eq the hi's.. thats with the nuendo 2 eq or a Waves Q6,Q8,Q10

i never really took the time to see not everyone sounds good on a U87ai, now i see that... i'm glad i didn't pay 1900 for a mic that really doesn't get used in my studio.. the adk 51tc gets used almost everyday

C9, an excellent sounding microphone that sounds similar to a RCA 77DX is the Electro-Voice EV RE15 (RE16 has foam pop filter).
It was used on all of Dolly Parton's recordings (many hits) at RCA.
The one she used there was locked up in a safe BTW. :)
