Phyl ,

Re-do your link, quickly before someone messes with your page at NWR!!!!

Phyl,

The segues work quite nicely on the piece and by the way, it is a very tasteful piece of music that you have written!! Very nice!

The only thing that needs attention in the piece so far is the mix and eq. The instruments don't seem well balanced in the mix as it sits right now. The guitar seems too quiet in the mix compared to the piano which seems a bit harsh in the top end and slightly distorted, though, this might just be the MP3 encoding of it? The strings as well seem a little strident in the top end.

Perhaps, consider putting the guitar to the left and the piano to the right and have the strings centred in the mix.

Polish up the levels and eq a bit and you'll have something very nice there that you can be proud of!

Cheers! :)

Thanks Ghost.

I'm struggling with Giga Piano, it only has two velocity levels and anything above velocity level 100 sounds harsh. I'll try some eq to soften it up.

I'll take another crack at the mix tomorrow, my ears are toast right now.

Phyl, there's a spot at 31-32 that you need a bit of decay. It rushes into the next note too quickly.
I think a good upright sound would sound awesome coming in right there as well.

I like the contrast between the natural acoustic guitar and sampley sounding piano although I'm sure it was not meant as the focus.

Good peice...needs a bit of a resolve at the end.

This is how I've been feeling today BTW....thanks for the music.

nice piece of music. very relaxing.

i like the guitar very much and the piano is nice.

don't really like the strings as much..

the ending is a bit unresolved though?

edit.....i just read jake's post. i agree with everything he said really. for some reason the guitar and piano sound good together to me, but i could do without the strings. there's sort of an intimate conversation going on between the two and the strings are trying to make it a threesome but it's not working for me.

i'm going to bed now.

The more I listen the more I think the strings are a little too busy in places and should play more of a supporting role instead on being in the fore front.

I tried for quite a while to seque the end of the piece ( an E major chord) back to the progression that the song starts in (G) but couldn't figure out how to get there.

Thanks for all the advice, it helps to have fresh ears.

Phyl, very nice piece, but the ending left me hanging. I'll echo Ghost's mix comments. I didn't think the strings were too busy, they just need their proper place in the mix.

Twist

Hey Phyl....I really enjoyed this piece. It has a certain character to it that is soothing, yet strong. I think the transitions make sense....you might have some mixing details (levels between instruments)to play around with, but I liked this a lot.
The ending part is nice...I see what people are saying about it not really resolving, but it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I think the way it is, it may just give the piece more of something special, you know, "uniqueness". The feeling of being left "hanging", fits the mood you've created nicely. Keep 'em coming...

Oooh. Nice piano. That sold me right away.

Bit of hiss here. Don't know if that's been addressed.

I love this kind of music. Who can listen to Slipknot all the time? Well, actually I could, but I love the fact that this kind of stuff is out there so that I'm not FORCED to.

I'm not a big fan of that background organ sound. But I love the piano and guitar, even though I can hear every picking sound and some fret buzz here and there. Love the whole song in general, except for the ending.

This makes me want to lay in the grass near a small river in the mountains of Spain I visited once with my ex-wife. It was the most peaceful place I have ever been, and this song reminds me of it. That's a really, really good thing. It's a bit happy, a bit sad. That's hard to pull off. The more I listen (I'm on my fifth listen -- very rare for me), the more I like.

Any song that can elicit that kind of nostalgia and emotion is okay in my book. F**k the mix. It's all about the feeling.

Damn, gotta remember that.

Nice pretty song. Good mix of instruments. Strings could probably come up just the slightest bit.

A couple things to clean up... Pop at :29, guitar string rattle at :30. String rattles at :53, and 1:03. Little mistake at 1:56. Pop at 2:01. Sounds like the guitar maybe hit the mic stand a couple of times starting at 2:05.

All in all, a nice soothing piece.

What a pleasure... I listened to a few of your tunes and find them very tasteful. The mixing is very good. The guitar is very smooth and all notes come out nicely. I like the drums you used. The only nit I have is for more piano backing on a couple. Some really nice smooth tones your getting on all the instruments. I heard a very small amount of hiss as well, from the samples but can be removed with eq or gated out.
