I got my son a Martin DX1 about 3 years ago. The back has separated from most of the sides. Granted, he left it lying around all the time but it's not like he left it outside or paddled a canoe with it or anything. I got it at a Sam Ash store.

Is this something I should expect the store to take care of, or should I go to Martin, or is this something I can properly fix myself? Please advise!!!:eek::mad::(

Call Martin and find out where the nearest warranty shop is.

Obviously, I can't say for sure without seeing the guitar, but this is frequently covered under the warranty. Only the warranty shop you take it to can say for sure.

Trust me, you don't want to try to do it yourself - those things are a giant pain in the ass to work on, made all the worse because they are glued together with cyanoacrylate, so your open time for clamps is about 20 seconds.

They use Superglue?

Well, it's a better quality brand than Superglue, but yeah, they are held together with CA's. It's the right adhesive for the material, though, and holds the stuff better than anything else could. The only problem is it's a giant pain in the ass to work with. Well, also, if the surfaces are not prepared right, you have the kinds of problems LI_Slim is talking about, and it's very easy to get sloppy in your surface prep.

Thanks for the advice.:)

I guess reattaching it with deck screws wouldn't be a very good idea.

Well, I can't swear that it would make the guitar worse, and I don't think it would make the sound any better, but I think "no comment" on that one.
