Bridge/intonation set-up on semi-acoustic?

Hey,

I just bought an Artcore, really nice guitar, but I really have no idea how to set up the intonation and height on the floating bridge. The intonation wasn't great when I got it home, and I've probably made the situation worse.

Are there any general guidelines that would make this less painless?

pretty sure its not a floating bridge on an artcore... prolly a tuneomatic which has adjustable saddles to tweak.... or a wraparound, which you dont have any adjustment capability.

The bridge comes off if you loosen the strings. That's not what's called a floating bridge?

You are suggesting tweaking the saddles to get the intonation right?

That's just a gibson style tunomatic. If you don't know how to intonate a guitar, you should probably take it to someone that does.

The screws that the saddles are attached to adjust the intonation.

Well, I know how to do it on a guitar with a fixed bridge, but probably don't manage as well as someone with a top of the line tuner. The biggest question mark for me is what is the best angle to set the bridge at, how close to the pickup, etc.

one way to do it is to set the saddles on both e strings in the middle and then move the bridge back or forth to set the intonation on those strings first.

then you do the rest of the strings.

A Google search should turn up some good tips. You'll need a good strobe tuner to really dial it in.

Doesn't this bridge sit on two studs? Even if it doesn't, you need to get a tuner and adjust the bridge so the 12th fret harmonic and the 12th fret note is the same. Move the bridge so it's close (if you can move it), then adjust the saddles to fine tune it.

I think he has one like the first guitar on this page-click on the image and it expands to HUGE. Theres a tune-o-matic thats on a floating wooden bridge.
My mandolins have the same setup as far as floating bridge-I use the same method Farview stated to set the 12th fret harmonic and note-but still on them it is a pain to set up so you should take it to a repairman and only change one string at a time so it doesn't get knocked out of whack.

Hi, thanks for your replies. I may take this to a luthier. Here is a pic of the model I bought. Gorgeous guitar for the money. When it's set up properly, it will be great. Action is nice, nice tone.
