Hi

My brenell mark 5 M chewd a tape and now the right hand reel motor will not stop running!!

I was not in the room when this happened but I was wiping some tape by recording nothing onto it and I left the room. My girlfreind called me and said that there was something wrong with the machine, so I called to her to stop it. When I came back in the tape was chewed in the left hand reel. I unravelled the tape and tried to rewind it but nothing happened. FF and play work fine but no RW????

Firther investigation has reveiled that the right hand motor is trying to turn constantly. The brake is the on;y thing stopping it spinning at full tilt!

Any ideas on what has gone wrong here???

My electronic knowlage is limmited to replacing parts.

Help me please :( :( :( :( :( :(

Wow! Great resource.

Looking at the diagrams it look s like there isn't much that can go wrong in the transport.

Would a blow cap have this effect on the motor? It seems there ain't much else there

Cheers JP!

Brenell Mk5 spooling problems

The reason the machine is constantly running even when it is in stop mode is because one of the suppressor capacitors which can be found across the switches underneath the chassis has turned up its toes.

This is creating a short across the switch hence why the machine continues to spool even in stop mode. The value is something like 0.01uF off the top of my head replace all of them while you are at it.

Leave the motor run capacitor alone this is the large metal can with a few leads coming out of it unless of course it is leaking any sticky substances. If so beware these are likely to be PCBs and they are not good for you. Incidentally you can not throw capacitors such as this into the regular waste they have to be disposed off at a local recycling centre.

I hope that helps

Let me just say welcome and thank you for that post. It is o no help to me but may be to someone...the original thread is 4 years old, but it is totally awesome of you to share your knowledge.
