Hello everyone...

as the title states I am brand new to recording. I have been reading up trying to learn alot. I have an 8 track portastudio (it's a start) and my question is: Can you record blank (or erase) a track, so that you can use it again, or will I just have to record every other track over again? If you can, how can you do that? Thanks, and sorry if this has already been posted and I missed it.

Perhaps consider using a computer. Then you can have more than 8 tracks, and you can keep the ones you don't like in your back pocket in case you change your mind, or cut a couple of measures out of that solo that you mostly don't like and move it in to the solo you mostly like, and...

Ah, that would be nice, wouldn't it? My budget is nil to zero right now, until i get another job. Thanks for the suggestion though.

another no computer comment...

it would help if we knew exactly what you had.....

but yes, i will bet if you read the manual you can delete (if it's digital and not over 10 years old).

at worst...you could record an empty track.....but why. re-record over the bad stuff or just turn the track off.

better questions = better answers

If you want to erase a track, set that track to record without sending an input to it. On my 4-track portastudio, I'd set the track to Direct, then route nothing into the corresponding input channel.

If you want to rerecord that track, just do that without erasing, there is no need for to erase first.

Don't be discouraged by the Porta. Try the Analog or Tascam forums for more info.

Are you using a computer to post? Is it yours? You can start out cheap using n-tracks software and the built in soundcard...
