What kind of setting would you guys use to eliminate crackle from bottle top pick ups. The little stick on ones that go on the body of an instrument.

Obviously it would be better to use an instrument with a proper under bridge pickup but sometimes you can EQ out the crackle in post (fat EQ in Logic Pro) and I just wanted to know if you could eliminate that as you were recording.

We tried taking of the tops and the mids and a fair bit of base but it was still there. SO just had it as low level ambient background and will lay the track down again or EQ in post as mentioned above.

Using a Tascam M164UF Logic Pro/garageband

When you say "crackles and pops", do you mean from the lead ? I record acoustic guitars with one sometimes and I've never had any of that. But what I have had is loud noise on the lead. If you touch it, it gives a sound like a percussion instrument ! Also while strumming, sometimes a bit of arm or sleeve brushes against it and noise picks up. I try to be lightfingered and delicate when I use a bottletop mic, against my playing nature !
I do like the bottletop mic, especially on my son's cheap crummy acoustic. It gives a sound that's somewhere in between electric and acoustic, both but neither. Same with the mandolin. A bit like crocodile.....
You could try and wrap the lead in tissue or cloth or something like that and cover the bottletop side of the mic.

I guess you could use duct tape. I'd use cloth or tissue. You'd need the duct tape to tape the cloth.
