Boss RC-20XL Loop Station...crazy problems??

I think I broke my friends loop station. I wasnt doing anything stupid, I just pressed the pedal and it wasnt working, and the next thing I know, it like...starts blinking all the lights and stuff, like some kind of demo mode or something. We have tried everything, unpluging it, pressing all of the buttons, holding down pedals, everything. Is this some kind of known glitch? Should he get it replaced or is this just something that we just dont know how to fix and can be fixed by pressing a couple of buttons? We are pretty confused...this doesnt really make any sense...hopefully someone can help me out.

Ill try to email boss or something...I tried looking for some kind of boss forums but no luck.
 
I think the original poster is dead now - I saw it in the paper this morning. RIP the looper guy....
