Hi Teddie
yeah I loved the second solo (distortion one), I like all the solo's I listened to all your other songs too...love Thunder on the Mountain,Which Way and All I live is you...I wish I could get my Strat sounding like that second solo its raw...mine sounds too clean even with heaps of O/Drive and Dist.. Ive never done Hard Disk recording before and ive got these live sound banks I can put in on the ISIS card, its also a sampling sound card....I'll send the song in when im finished it...the quality is perfect but im still learning how to mix on this thing.....so far my mix on this first song im doin has improved out of sit since reading all Ed's (sonusmans)stuff.. it the song sounded like junk at first then i listened to Secret Heart from Ed's studio (Echostar)and its soundin comparable...
What AMP and Guitar Cabs are you using Teddie and what mic for vocals and guitar

take care

Tony

Brad, you've got me curious about Storyville. Can I find them on mp3.com or online somewhere? Thanks for the birtday wishes! :)

Emeric, hehe, yeah, the lo-fi version is definitely all mono my friend. I'm going to redo that solo, just the tone though. Thanks for listening.

David, did you mention Malford Milligan in that "Thunder..." thread. I think I actually recall that. I'm really curious now. I'll search for Storyville. Thanks again!

Jon X, thanks much for the input and the encouragement. I'm actually going to redo the solo, but just the tone. I actually kinda want to do it anyway. I flubbed a little bit on that really fast part of it.

Ray J, yeah, I was actually trying to have it just the bass in the background with the drums while I sang (aside from the guit fills and solos). I thought it might be extra mellow that way. Aha! Yes, George Benson. I really like the way he duets with that guitar on that song "This Masquerade". Thanks, Ray J for listening and for the detail of input.

tutton, Hi man! Thank you big time for listening to all my stuff... makes a fellow musician feel great. So, are you recording with your PC? I'm not familiar with the ISIS card. Please let us know when you get your song done! tutton, I'm actually not using any Amp/Cab combo... just a Pod. My vocals setup is a Shure SM-57 mic going through a little ART Tube MP Preamp and directly into the sound card. Lately I've only been putting the vocals tracks through a little compression after laying the track down dry. That's how I did "A Darker Shade..." Thanks again!

I meant that while I wasn't embarassed by my added lines to your tune (despite their very rough nature) they just took the tune in a different direction that wasn't necessarily better than what you already had, just different.
And I've listened to the tune way more than twice!!! (Radical understatement)

Hi Teddie
A POD.... yes I was doing a little offine reading to day and discovered that NOW I want one more than ever NOW I SAY!!!

An ART Tube Mic pre that explains that sound even further...WOW.

The sound card is a Maxi Studio ISIS made in France by Guillemot. If you can get that sound out of you $30 (Aust) onboard sound card imagine what YOU could do with a $759 (Aust) card........(god you guys can buy cheap over there were gettin ripped of here)after seein some of the prices discussed.

Yep I record on the PC I'll let you and Charles know when im done but im not postin on here in case it gets criticized (or however ya spell it)cause I cant sing and after hearin Charles's stuff I think i'll give up playin all together.......

Take Care

Tony

Like I said, it's pretty rough, but I had fun recording it. And again, thanks.

drstawl, that sounded cool. If you want to do what you were saying about putting that on your site with a link to the original, that would be kind of neat.

Teddie,

Man your voice is so versatile! Is there anything you CAN'T sing??

Maybe he should try some rap-hiphop... :)

That would be a nice challange...

Gee, you're not gonna belong on this bbs much longer if you keep this sort of thing up. That was *really* nice. 1 Nice sound. 2 Real nice voice and singing. 3 Very nice guitar/voice doubling 4 The vocal backups near the end were delightful. 5 You know about the guitar playing.

See, it's the way you add changes and surprises in the context of an ever-predictable blues that works so sweetly. Dunno bout the reverb on the guitar suddenly in the middle, but if I can't find something to pick at, I'm not happy. :)

Send us a postcard later on and tell us what it's like living with a recording contract.

Teddie: You're too kind. There were maybe half a dozen ideas in my mangle of your tune that were worthwhile, while the rest of it stepped all over your beautiful work... :(
I'd really like to have a chance to jam with you virtually (a la the H/R band, until they all get started) so I won't be stepping all over your work. E-mail me a click track in very lo-fi consisting of just the bass and drums; I'll add and send you a rhythm guitar track and you add a lead to your higher-fi version leaving some space for a (short) trade-off lead as the capper.
I think this will be fun!

MrLip, there is one thing I can't sing... I can't sing like a woman... Actually I can, but man, I make some funny faces when I do and I just end up scaring my kids.

memo, hehe, I actually did a really cool rap song about 8 years ago called "I Could Never Do Without You"... It's really nasty though - alot of dirty dirty talk. My wife hates it. I love it... I should post it one of these days... it's on an old cassette so I'll have to do the old "plug-em up" :)

dobro, you're too kind, but thanks so much for the encouragement. I tried to phatten that solo up a bit on a remix... I don't know if it did the trick, but it sounds better to my ears. I felt it was too "thin" before - it might still be the case, but it's better. Thanks again.

drstawl, hey! That's a cool idea. Okay, I'll do something up with bass and drums... (I dunno what a click track is)... Remind me if you don't get something with a couple of weeks... I tend to flake with everything that's going on. Great idea...

Hey Teddie, made my wife sit down and listen to this (and all your other tunes as well) and let me tell ya she was blown away...so you have another fan! Rock on!

Hehe. David, tell your wife I said "Thanks" and that she is sooooo high on my list of cool people right now :)

YES! Let's post our RAP stuff!

I have one really pathetic rap tune and one techno experiment that I did.

I'd love to hear some Filipino rap! HA!

Wow Teddie. This is great stuff. Love that ballsy bass sound. Your voice reminds me of Billy Gibbons a little in some places, but it just might be better than his. I really love blues and like to see it served up fresh like this. I'd be interested in any CD's you're selling - preferably not the mp3.com ones since they're derived from lossy 128K mp3's, but I'll take what I can get.

MrLip, hehe. Don't temp me to post it.

X, thanks for listening. I'm glad you liked it. The only CD's I have for sale right now are at the MP3.com site. I actually bought one for myself to check the quality against the ones I burn at home from the WAV originals. I think mp3.com must decompress those mp3's before burning? Does anyone know if this is the case? Well, X, if you buy one of my CD's, God bless ya man.

They do decompress them first, but since mp3 is a "lossy" compression scheme, the "infomation" that was lost during the initial compression is still lost after decompression. But for most stuff you have to really listen close to notice a difference.

I'm off to mp3.com to buy it now!

X, really? Are you going to buy it? You ARE AWSOME! Thanks!

It should be here in 3-10 days :) But really, I think people should buy all the indie artists they like, even if their stuff is free for download. I have a huge problem with record companies and the way they ripoff artists on one hand, but on the other hand wage a war against all the new music empowerment technologies (mp3,napster,etc) in the name of their artists which they pay a tiny royalties to after they've gone ahead and subtracted out the cost of producing the album from the artist's share of the bounty. The same artists that they've stripped of all legal rights to their own creations. Anyway, I would like to see online distribution take over and pull the rug out from under the traditional labels. And the way to do that is to put your money (I don't have much) where your mouth is and let artists know that they don't need the labels anymore.

Anyway, sorry to attach this rant to your thread - your stuff is definitely top notch.
