I just noticed I posted in this thread before I had used the mic, and have since used it to track an album for a local band. The Kickball is a unique sound really, it has somewhat of the condensor sound you expect (somewhat more detailed response) but the punch of the mic is in a slightly different place than you'd expect (a little higher). It has a bit more of a mid punch thing going on, which worked well for this band. The mic takes EQ fine and has good attack and certainly isn't lacking on the low end.

The Kickball is a punchy mic with a sound somewhere between the detailed sound of a condensor mic and the somewhat smoothed over sound of a good dynamic.

Ok, here's the Million-Bullet question (been here before!): Should a part-time recordist/musician with his own recording band buy this mic for kick drum- if he doesn't already have a Beta 52 or an SM91? I don't mind EQ-ing after the fact, if this makes it affordable and gives "acceptable" results.

You couldn't go wrong with it for sure. I was next door at the Jam Room Studio today doing drum mic shootouts and out of about 30+ mics on kick the Kickball did quite well.

I still find myself really liking a Shure SM57 with an Earthworks "Kickpad" inline though. They pair up real nice and together cost less than $200.

Ah, I've seen that 'Kickpad" thing. Looks even more interesting, as it uses what I've already got here.

Thanks, War.
