Hello, here is a link to a Sabbath cover I'm working on,not to happy with the vocals,I have been working on it for awhile and decided to take a break and get some opinions from some fresh ears!I changed up the middle ozzy "scat" part a bit and threw in a guitar solo thats different from the original.Looking for feedback on the arrangment and sound of this.
Electric Funeral

Thanks in advance, all critiques, tips, opinions are much welcome as I'm really trying to improve my recording skills!

Pretty good tune. Vocals aren't the best, but are way better than I can do. Guitar tone is pretty nice. I'm no real help, but listened, and liked it.

Anyways, while that downloads. If you want, I can do the vox on 'Flight of Icarus' for you. Bruce Dickinson is one of my all time favorite vocalists, and that is one of my all time favorite songs (Tied for first place with about 40 or 50 other 'Maiden' songs).

Atterion, that would be really cool! The singer in the real band I'm in does not really dig this style, and as you can tell,I suck at vocals...Let me know how you want to do it,I recorded it with Cakewalk Guitar tracks pro3,so I think I can send you a bundle if you can work with those....let me know. Im actually working on another Maiden cover called Still Life, from the Piece of Mind album...

I'm not sure if Sonar will open Guitar Tracks bundles (I'll check, my guitarist uses Sonar). If not check to see if GTP3 can export OMF (I use Cubase and it can import OMF). Worst case scenario, bounce a copy of the mix with the preroll and everything, I can put in cubase as a reference track and record the Vox, and send you back the vox track (with silence and all for easy importing) and you can import it back to GTP3 for mixing. Send me a PM with file size info etc. and I'll send you info for the transfer of files.

Still Life is a cool song. P.o.M. is one of their finest albums for sure.

Amazing how long songs use to be. That was cool, long time since I heard it. Besides the singing "which is not easy to do sometimes", I seemed to be getting a lot of ups and downs in the recording. Volume wise I mean, not really break ups or clips. Maybe my system, don't no????? Anyone else hear it?

I caught on to your scene way back at "Ziggy Stardust". I love the covers you're doing, as they're parallelling the types of covers I do. You're a lot more current and prolific than I've been for a while, but your stuff inspires me! (Mental Note: I should record some new stuff!)

Thanks for the kind words!I checked out your tunes and really dug your version of Moonage Daydream, nice vocals!Look forward to hearing more of your stuff!

Retracked vocals

Hello,In case anybody checked this tune out before, after getting some mix tips,Ive remixed this tune, adding drum fills and cymbal crashes, leveling out the volume jumps with the drums(hopefully)and redid the vocals(not much help there I'm afraid..I pretty much suck singin')
Here is the link to the updated mix:
Electric Funeral

Is this any better?

tempo of the song seems fast to me. maybe the drums need to be half time feel or something, they just kinda keep going through the song, where as the original is slow and really heavy sounding because of the slow tempo.

i think the singing is good, and the guitar playing is excellent.

Thanks for the feedback!Yeah,I did speed it up a bit...I started out slower but I just didn't have a good feel for it.I know the original is that way..but I guess I wanted to change it up a bit,I messed with Ozzy's "scat" part in the middle as well to to kinda put my own stamp on it.Thanks again for checking it out!

I think you need to bring the guitars out front a lot more...

Way to much reverb and no body to the guitar tone...

Its been a while since i've heard the original version but the drums seem to be way too "AC/DC" like for this song. I think the original beat was kind of a half time feel and this thing is just rocking the 4/4 type rock beat.
There are some timing issues between the bass and guitar starting around the 2:50 mark, just before the "scat" section.
Good guitar playing, vocals could have been better but I can't sing so im not really one to judge.

Yeah,I agree about the guitar...being a guitar player,I tend to focus on that in the mix at the expense of drums, bass etc.On this mix I think I tried to hard the other way and back the guitars down a bit.I will try your suggestion and post back what I come up with after "drying" out the verb and kicking up the guitar a bit.
Thanks agian for the feedback!

I hear you on the drums...I used loops and didnt have to much to choose from(Just got a Beta Monkey Music drum loop cd in the mail today!)SO I kinda made the best with what I had and tried to put my own spin on the tune.I was getting kinda aggressive with the Bass track during the "marching" part and got sloppy...and the vocals...I cringe when I hear them myself, but Im trying to become competent enough to sing on my recordings so I guess its a painful learning process.
Thanks for the critiques,it helps to hear your work thru somebody elses ears!
