bit of help please?

Hey all...

I'm trying to do, what I thought would be quite a simple recording.

Basically I just want to record some songs for my self - I've got a mac book and a dynacord powered amplifier.

The dynacord has a 'rec out' rca port.

the question is this - can I use a rca cable from my powered amp - into my mic in on my macbook - I'm a little bit dubious, and dont want to blow it up!!!

Also I've already got the mac hooked to the amp using the phones socket into a main line

So I want to be able to simultaneously play my tracks whilst recording in audacity - Is this possible??

I'd be very grateful for your thoughts!

You're going to need to get an RCA to TRS 3.5 mm cable. Your MacBook doesn't have an RCA input, so you will need that conversion cable. From there you shouldn't have any problems using Audacity or GarageBand (I'd try to go with GarageBand. It might seem more confusing than Audacity at first, but the editing capabilities are much better in GB than Audacity) and recording while playing previously recorded tracks, playing multiple tracks together, etc.

You should note that the built-in soundcard in your MacBook isn't the greatest soundcard in the world and you may not get the quality you are looking for, however, if these recordings are just for personal use you should be fine.

Thanks so much - Thats the cable I've got - was just worried that putting too many cables in and out would do something bad!!!

I'll give garage band a try!
