Beyer Dynamic M48 Static sound Help? (big pictures)

I recently purchased a Beyer M58, and hooked it up directly to my camera, with an XLR cable and a stereo jack cable, the only problem is that I get alot of background noise, I have attached a video and photos of how it is all connected. Does anyone know how I can get better sound from the microphone, Thanks!

My best guess is that the 1/8 inch jack is hardly an acceptable connection for recording. XLR and 1/4" are the usual connections. Maybe have a look at handheld audio/video recorders that have built in mics. Otherwise it may be best to record the audio into another device.
