hey, i'm currently using a behringer mixer as my preamps, but i'm going to get a dmp3, which has 2 preamps. when recording drums, would u suggest i use the 2 better preamps on the bass/snare (top) or the two over heads? here's my mic setup:

Bass - akgd112
snare top - shure sm 57
snare bottom - rode nt1a (is this a bad idea?)
rack toms - shure sm 57
floor tom - radio shack mic (that one that was on a blowout sale for $15)...or shure sm 57
overheads - oktava mk012

You want to use them wherever you will use the bulk of your kit sound from.

I use my kick and snare mic for the bulk of my drum sounds and only use a very little touch of overheads to bring in the cymbols and stick sounds, so I would use it on kick / snare.
If you were recording Jazz style kit (particularly with brushes) I would use the better pres on overheads.

My Experiance anyway.
