best quality pitch shifting

what is the best pitch shifter in your experience? for pitching monophonic and polyphonic material.

for example if you wanted to pitch a bounced track down a couple of semitones, record backing vocals or chords, then pitch them up to fit the original tune. we're running cubase 4. otherwise we'd have used protools' varispeed function.

Melodyne is awesome. I know a lot of people use auto-tune. I personally use v-vocal because it's built right into Sonar.

Not sure what Cubase has. I've never tried it.

melodyne is what we use for vocal pitch correction. what i'm looking for specifically is a pitch shifter. one that's better quality than the cubase 4 standard pitch shifter.
