I was looking at purchasing a pair of either KRK V4 monitors or KRK RP6 monitors. I've heard a lot about Alesis nearfield monitors and was wondering if there were any monitors that are comparable or more highly reguarded as near field monitors for under $500

I had some Alesis monitor one's that I hated...I'm using KRK V8's right now and I'm really pleased.

I just had a hard time hearing on them and they didn't translate well for me at all. I know monitors are subjective so some people might really like them.

I went from them to Event 20/20's which I liked better, and now I've had the KRK's for about a year and I'm really liking them.

I got Event PS6s off eBay for less than $300. I am very pleased with them.

I don't miss my monitor ones at all. They sounded pretty decent to me until I started working on better monitors. It only took about 30 minutes to realize what a hindrance they had been the whole time. However, at the time, and for what they cost, they certainly were not a bad deal. They did what I needed them to do with the resources I had at the time:)

The Alesis are alright (own a pair), but I'd really just like to say that the whole RP line just plain sounds like ass, IMHO ...

Now the V6/V8s on the other hand, sound fantastic ... but cost about twice as much ... :D

V4 and a sub....surrender to the sub....all resistance is futile.

Regarding the Alesis M1's,

I understand there is a big difference between the passives and the actives. I have the passives, and I can't compare them to anything because they're my first monitors. The actives have those ports on the front, the passives have only one and it's in the back. Obviously, they're a different design.

You guys that don't like the Alesis, are you talking about the actives or passives?
