Do you mean what they're supposed to cost,or what I actually paid for them? I got a new in box Joemeek Vc6Q two weeks ago for $199,and I'll be picking up a Mindprint Envoice at the end of the week, also $199.Gotta love those blowout sales! BTW,these are both very useful pieces IMHO.
Where did you get the Meek?

probably Guitar Center...a few weeks ago i picked up 2 VC3Q's for $99 each....

I know I've said this a few times, but a Neve 1272 homebuilt would cost you under $300 if you did it right.

Neve homebuilt?

well it ain't called a Neve 1272 then anymore, eh? ;)

New name: "SmartAss Selfsoldered RNMP AsGoodAsNeve1272 Version 1.0" :p

On this matter I will only say that I own the audio buddy and that I am happy with the audio buddy.

Take that for what it is worth.

If the M-Audio DMP3 is so great, why doesn't any retailer sell them? The GC only has them if special ordered only.

By that standard the RNC, C1, marshall mics, canare and mogami cable, soundcraft mixers, etc are all bad gear. GC carries companies that make very average gear like dbx and focusrite (at the $500 level) who have been relegated to crapheap but GC is still singing their song as if it just came out last week.

Actually, it's because it hasn't even hit stores yet. Basically, it's a DMP-2 with a more classic look. The DMP-2 is known to be an exceptional for the price, so people are recommending the dmp-3 based on that.

mic preamp

okay i dont even own a preamp and ive been shopping for about 3 months now and ive decided to build one. a PAIA kit for a tube preamp sets me back about 190 canadian and it will be a challenge as well as a lesson in electronics. ill post the results and may even a preamp test against another rental unit to see if i get my moneys worth. anyone else do a kit??? im also now freakin out about a new mic but thats in the mic section and its nuts....

If you really plan on making the PAIA kit, think of it more as education/experience rather than a workable mic pre - they're just too noisy to use.

I've got an Event EMP-1

Okay, I'll admit I haven't done a lot of comparison shopping in the mic pre category, but the Event EMP-1 (no tubes, BTW) I ended up purchasing suits me just fine. I bought it in Feb. 2000 for around $200. Very, very quiet, crisp, and clean. Looks pretty cool, too, with it's brushed aluminum housing.

ok, i just started reading this thread 10 mins ago for the first time, and the question that came up to my mind is,
"are these pres under $500 really gonna make a noticeble difference to my ears compare to my Behringer mixer's pres??"

I have struggled with either getting a pre or not for a long time, and concluded with Grace 101 once I save up enough. This was backed up by a sweetwater salesman. He pretty much stopped me from buying anything under $500 at their store and told me to use my Behringer and wait until I can afford Grace 101.

Now, is this cool DMP3 really gonna be a jump (let's say a $200 jump) from my Behringer pres? Or is it just a huge jump for people who don't own ANY pre?

before you try to talk Behringer down, just let me say this real quick, I have faith in my mixer's pres JUST because everyone is talking them down, and most of all, they rob Mackie for the poor. lol

too noisy ahhh

wait how can that be...... why me? anyone else have a kit experience and noise ah well at least if it is its my fault and not just my pocket books.but really why do you think the paia units are just too noisy experience or heresay? i posted forever on these units and now that ive bought one someone comes forward saying they are noisy what the fu.. . you cant buy freedom can ya>>>>>!

I built their two channel compressor a while back, and I did notice it was a little noisy. Nothing too bad, but there none the less.

It will sound like a $600 step up from your Behringer pres for $200. The Grace Design, however will sound like a $2000 step up from your Behringer pres for only $600.

Chessrock

And how much a step up is the Joemeek VC1Qcs? Is it in the same league as the Grace 101? I heard someone say yes, but I see more folks here advising the Grace than the Meek. I myself play a lot of 'retro' music (60's surf, 70's rock), so I guess the Meek would suit my flavor, right?
help me out here, o.k.?
