Howdy...

I'm using Pro Tools 8 on a Mac...
I have an AT4040 mic, and I'm trying to record vocals via the bus method. It works, however, the monitored sound in the phones is that doubled thing.
I can't mute the audio track nor the comp aux track, or the vocal won't print.
Does anyone know a way to monitor your vocal without the funky double vocal going on, while using the bus/aux method?

Also, I've been getting some weird distortion just on certain notes and the way I sing them, that seem to resonate and cause a strange distortion.
I've been recording for years with ProTools, but only for the past year with the new M-Audio fast track ultra. I used to use the old LE Mbox, and never had this problem.
Does anyone know if this is a preamp issue with M-Audio?

Any helpful input is greatly appreciated. I'm at my wits end...

cheers,
Athos.

You're hearing a monitor signal (audio which goes from the mic to the interface) AND the return signal (audio that comes from pro tools, to the interface).
You probably have a 'mix' control on the interface. That mixes the monitor and return signals. Turn it one way to hear just one, and the other for the alternate one.
