What the heck?! Might as well cover this too.
What's your favorite 'bucker? I really like the Duncan Custom. I also really dig the PRS stock buckers in the 24 fret models, especially the Bass one.
Zesty!

I'd like to know what pick-ups people like with a Gibson Les Paul. I have a Dimarzio (don't remember the model but it was installed in 1980) for the neck pick-up and it's just so bright.

I put Jackson high-output ceramic humbuckers on my neck-through Takamini GX200 (bet you never saw a Tak electric before!).
Nostalgia demands a mention of the soapbar pickups on the '58 Les Paul, the first commercial humbucker I think.

I like the EMG's. Thery're clean, quiet and hot, you can go through piles of floor boxes and still end up with a good tone. The 85's are pretty nice and the 81's will tear your face clean off. I would be curious if anyone has tried the 89's, which are supposed to be coil tap-able. Also REALLY like the Seymour JB's, I've yet to find a guitar that they didn't sound good in. My Hamer has a Seymour '59 in the neck position and I like that a lot too. Tubby and round, but with a nice edge, on that guitar at least (mahogany set-neck with maple top). All that having been said, I can usually find stuff to like in any pickup that doesn't go microphonic at high volume...OUCH!

peace.

I recently put a Seymour Duncan JB in my guitar and it sounds really sweet!

I like the SD JB jrs in my Kramer.... plus they look cool! ;)

Aaron,

If you're thinking that you may want to get a split coil humbucker for your guitar, a Seymour Duncan Mag on the bridge with a Duncan regular vintage replacement strat pickup in the middle will give you a very good Strat sound, as long as you have a bolt on neck.
It also helps if the guitar has a bolt on neck, too :D

I have a 'Super Strat' with those two and a Duncan Custom in the neck position.
With the correct splits I get the great Strat 'in-between' sounds, plus all the Gibson sounds.

anyone got a clue on a pickup that won't go microphonic... need new ones for my les paul cause with the preamp and master volume on 2 on my amp, i get crazy feedback..

Hey skweeks,

If you like the sound of those pickups, take them to a decent repairman and have them dipped in wax.

That will take care of the squealing, and for a lot less than new pickups will cost.

If there is nobody around who can do that for you, find Lindy Fralin and send them to him - he did a great job on one of my old ones. His number is:
1 (804) 358-2699

If you want new pickups, Seymour Duncan has a full range from regular 'vintage replacements' to 'blow the walls down'

Dimarzio Evolution. Its good and cheap. Great chunky sound.

My favoright axe, c7sus.

Stacked 1/4 pounders on the strat are tuff to beat.

I Like Di Marzio Evo's too , lots of sweet overtones .
cheers

Well, there is no "best" humbucker......just a lot of different good ones.I like the early patent number Gibson stock pickups, the ones they made right after the famed patent applied for pickups.I've had the latter, and while I like them, the patent number pickups seem to be a little sweeter.I've read from reliable sources that the real early patent No. were exactly the same as the PAFs,that the only difference was that now Gibson had a patent.I think that they are more articulate than PAFs,and certainly not cheap. They go for around $100-200 each, depending on the vintage and if they have covers.
I agree with C7sus..........soapbars are the favorite tone throughout the ages for all kinds of music. They don't get wooly when you turn your volume down to 7 or 8.

i've got a seymour duncan which i suspect to be a JB but i'm not sure. i'm hoping some of you can help me out. i tried to get a second one cuz i like it soooooooooooo much the serial number on the back is untraceable (how do you write that?!) and believe me i tried. it only has a sticker on the back which is about the size of a fingertip and it says JBL. anyone got a clue?

thanks

guhlenn

ps that would be my favourite then! i like the invader too but it tends to be noisy...
