Hi

I´m looking for a good micpre/comp. The one´s i have in mind now is TL Audio Ivory 5051, Focusrite´s Penta. Anyone using them??
I have an ART Tube-pac now, and people keep telling me i should
get rid of it, and buy something else. Will i notice a big diffrence between a Tubepac and the TL audio, or do i have to concider getting one of those major expensive units to really hear any diffrence??

Dont listen to what 'people' tell you. Are you satisfied with the sounds your getting now? What mic are you using?

...and what are you recording, and for what purpose?

I haven´t really much experience testing micpres so i´ve got nothing to compare to. Most people get a grin on thier face when i tell them i´m using ART. So, something must apparently be wrong. But i know Sonusman says ART is OK, but he is the only "pro" i´ve come across who states this.

I´m using Groove-Tubes AM-51 the most, mainly for vocals and acoustic guitars.
Basically i do demos (alternativ pop, rock), but that doesn´t mean i´ll seattle with my gear mainly cause it´s a "demo". I want those clean, warm signals.

So, are you sastisfied with your sonunds now? On the surface, I would suggest a new pre-amp..but I've heard very good tracks done with it. It's really up to you, if you like what your doing now, dont change it. Let us know what you end up doing. YMMV.

I've worked with both of them and i personally favour the TLA. Fist time I used that one was during a live perfomance on the lead channel with a midas console. Now Midas pre's are pretty impressive but the TLA rocked the shit out of the midas.

The difference between the Focusrite or the TLA is pure personal.
