I'd recommend a Studio Projects B1. $99. Buy two of them. They are unbeatable for the price--especially on accoustic guitar. They do a great job on voice as well.

here's a song recorded with a B1 on accoustic.

the mix is wanky, but it might be instructive.

What kind of gear did you use there Sonic? Guitar, Pre/Mixer, Sound Card... the whole setup? Just curious... i like the sound that you've got there as well.

Guitar: Taylor 314ce

Pre: RNP into RNC

Sound card: Layla3g

Mixing in the box.

On that recording I used a Studio Projects B1 on guitar, a Neumann TLM 103 on vox and a Oktava 319 on "drums"--if you can call them that.

Of course, my secret is the room. It's treated with Venetian blinds, a queen sized bed, and about 34 issues of unread New Yorkers. But don't tell anyone...

That's funny. Back in the early 80's, when I was a Gonzo Journalism student, to impress women I'd keep a few issues of the New Yorker and the Atlantic lying around my apartment next to my copy of Fear and Loathing. I'm not sure which they were less impressed with--the mags or my guitar playing. :D

Great work, Sonic, in a fun kind of way. I use a couple of SP B1s myself for acoustics and am also quite happy with them.

By the way, there is no "best" mic for guitar in any price range. Perhaps you should rephrase your question. For example:

What mics aid the achievement of a full and warm sound?

(That is derived from the original question creating this thread.)
