Hey Guys. I need help with the "best" combo type guitar amp to get. I have always played through a 68 Fender Bassman and now have 3 discs packing up. Was looking at the trademark60, peavey bandit, classic 30 etc type amp. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Vox AC-15TBX (with blue alnico). Might not be quite what you're looking for if you want a more Fender-ish sound, but it's my all-time favorite 1x12 combo.

How much do you want to spend?

Mesa Boogie Mark IV.

Buy a Boogie, live happily ever after.

True..Or you could look for a "SOB" Boogie ..kinda like a old mark 1..I wonder if you could find one for about 400.00..Great amp..its kinda on the loud side though..simple to use and get a good tone from..on the cheap a used Classic 30.They really do sound nice, kinda between a Marshall and a Fender to me..I have one with a Vintage 30 in it hangs with my JCM800 ..Good luck

Of course this depends on the style and guitar ect. :)

Henri: How Much

Shock and horror I am from South Africa... Equipment here is hellish expensive. I can afford in the region of R6000 which is approx $800. From the price of things in the US I would say I am looking in the Trademark60 region. I have also heard good things about the TM60 but don't want to lose tone. Current set up G&L Legacy - Bassman 50 - 2x12 Celestion loaded cab. (sometimes use my ibanez 76 SG copy) but am not sure of whether I should pursue that avenue. It would be a major effort to get to play one (400mile trip).

I enjoy the tubes but maint and hauling the thing around is a shlep (bad back)

BTW I'm mostly a rythem player, clean - gentle overdrive.

For a small, inexpensive, and portable tube amp a Fender Blues Jr. is a pretty good deal.

I said Hot Rod Deluxe because it was the best amp for me in seeking something that was lighter and more compact and still had similar sound and feel to what I used for many years which was a '67 Fender Super and a '67 Fender Bassman.

Look on E-Bay..for the Classic 30 Peavey..should find{used} it for about 300.00{U.S} or so..also The Rage posted a cool link to a Ampeg..I've never used one but it looks like its up to the task..Good luck :)

Thanks

I see that abs no ss seem to be getting a mention. With all the transtube/sansamp modelling VS2000 type technowledgy I would have thought that the solid states would at least be getting a mention?

yeah we all like tube amps here. solid state seriously sucks.

i have a mesa boogie dc3 and i like it a lot. 30 watts 112. its a heavy little bugger and ridiculously loud.

i also just picked up a '78 fender princeton reverb. its only 1x10 @ 12 watts but i like it a lot. it doesn't get as loud as my dc3 but it still gets plenty loud enough. i think i need to change out the speaker though. the original fender speakers just aren't tight on the low end.

the fender hot rod deluxe is a good amp. i'd consider getting one if i didn't just get the princeton reverb.

you should be able to find any of these 3 on ebay for around $500 american.

you asked what the "best" 1X12 combo is....

mesa mark IV

got the widest tonal range and clean-distorted range in an all tube amp...
that's for the purest....

but it's all subjective, when it comes to tone...

i can attest to the road worthiness, and purity of tone, of the mesa mark series....

for bang for the buck, and ease in setup.... possibly one of the line 6 amps...

Kitty Hawk M1...essentially a mesa boogie though.

4 channels: Mesa boogie sounding overdrive, Marshall sounding overdrive, a combination of the two, and the prettiest clean channel.

Picked mine up for $450

I just bought an Alesis Wildfire...1x12 with 60 watts. Go ahead...throw tomatoes!! I have a good collection of tube amps too. But this little sucker is loud, and has all the effects built in. I get a great sound, imo, and am glad I got it. A couple people have said this amp really sucked, but most of the reviews I have read on the internet, the people really seemed to like them.
Right now at Musicians Friend, they are selling the Wildfire 60 watt version for $200, and you get a free foot pedel from Alesis as a rebate..which is two buttons for up/down banks and an expression pedal. The older "spitfire" series, they are blowing them out at $129 for the 60 watt version....basically the same amp line as the wildfire series. I don't think you can beat that with a stick.

Personally, I get pretty much the same sound on this little bugger as I do on my Ampeg V4 at a much lower volume. Wish I had this setup 30 years ago.

Oh...not to mention, I do run this stereo with another small amp too... Makes the chorus that much thicker.

Best? Carr Hammerhead....about 1800 us dollars...25 watts class A.

For 800 us you should try to find a nice clean unaltered Fender Concert...1-12 40 watts all tube....vintage is around 1976 to 1988 or so...these are the Rivera's daddy amp...absolute tone. How CBS ever let something that good out the door whilst sucking all the quality out of everthing else is beyond me.

H & K 20W Edition 20th century

No one seems to like the TM60 (Tech 21) HAS ANY ONE EVEN TRIED THEM. I really understand the whole tube vibe (68 Bassman worked with GT's) But am keen to prevent a back fusion. The HRD looks like a serious contender. I also would like to play the above. The whole TM60 thing came up because it has some seriously high ratings and is LIGHT. The other promising amp some one mentioned to me was the H&K 20W. Has any one played this

I've heard some good things about the TM60, but have never actually heard one myself. I myself have a Peavey Classic 50 2x12, so I would highly recommend the Classic 30 1x12. You might also want to concider the Traynor YCV20 or YCV40. I've heard some great things about these amps as well.
