Just out of curiousity......why? Although opinions vary, pretty much the general consensus is that these things kinda suck. Not only do I not like them, I've never heard a good word said about them by anybody. And there are certainly better choices for the money.

Sorry, I just ran across this subject in the "Other Equipment" forum, and several people did have positive things to say about the Truths. Those were the first positive comments I've ever read about them. I'm a firm beleiver in the idea that everyone is entitled to their preferences. I never could stand the "industry standard" NS-10's, yet thousands of hits have been made on them. I was under the assumption (I don't know why) that you hadn't heard them, or personally compared them to anything else, and were just wanting them based on price. No, I haven't mixed on them. I have heard them though, and I thought them downright unpleasant, with an almost painful "sizzle" to them. On the other hand, I absolutely loved the Mackie 824's. I wish I could afford them. Just my opinion.
FWIW, I was only going to suggest that you made sure you hear them first, as well as the competition.

sorry if it felt like i was snapping on you, my apologies. i feel the same way about ns-10's... at my joint studio e have all mackie stuff and the mackie 824's... they sound good, great even, but on some mixes they tend to get muddy(could be because the sealed box design) after mixing on the truths, i thought the hi's were to damn crisp,poppy even but i just looked at the back panel and adjusted them and they sounded much better. at $320-399 i haven't heard a monitor that sounds as good. if i had the money i'd love to get the KRK v88's... they sound great, and they have a very strong low end(most of my songs have a ot of bass)

I'm interested in your opinion of both the Behringer Truths and the Yorkville YSM1s.
Having read several posts about monitors, these two models seem to be favored heavily over other models in the same price range.

The YSM1i's are quite reasonable little monitors -- I replaced my Tannoy Proto-Js with them as part of secondary monitor system.
They have decent bass response and good highs - and they don't have that mids-sucked-out quality that many other monitors do.
In actuality, the Behringer Truths are not bad -- but they are not in the same league as the Mackies, or the KRKs for that matter.
I find their bass response very slow - almost as if there is a few mS delay in the signal being sent to the low-freq amp compared to the high-freq amp.
They don't exhibit the same "cleanness" as either the Mackies or the V8s....
But keep in mind - these are my personal and subjective opinions... these characteristics may not be obvious or even matter to others.
If I were you, I would look at Tannoy Reveals as well... they are an excellent monitor. You can also consider Event 20/20 or PS6/8s, but I find them slightly too forgiving on some material.

this isn't going to any one in this post but pl just need to get off Mackies nuts. they are overrated. side by side the event 20/20bas sound better than the mackies. i had 2 mackies in my control room this weekend, they sound better in my area compared to the other studio but they still arn't nothing special. and bass, my tracks have a lot of bass, the mackies can't even pick it up good with out sounding funny or muddy. the 20/20's did, so did the behringers. after playing with the settings on the behringers the hi's sound good now, they arn't splashy and they don't pop anymore (south tracks)
i want someone to to do a mix on the mackies then do a mix on the behringer's and tell me you don't get a better mix...or it could have been the mics....

see when i say this isn't toward anyone in this post you say something stupid like
i have ppl that can get me genelec 1031's on the low, but i'm not dealing with them anymore. for $320-400 the behringers can't be beat. its about time they made something worth talking about... later on this year i'ma get the krk V88's

Thanks to your help, and to the great reviews I've seen, I have decided to make the Yorkville YSM1s (old-style) my second major studio purchase; the first being an Electro Voice RE20, last July.
And I am seriously considering TexRoadkill's recommendation that I buy an Audio Buddy, in lieu of waiting to purchase a dBx 376 or Vocal Strip, or an ART Pro MPA/VLA combination.
I am grateful to all the subscribers to this forum for their generous advice, answering questions they must have answered hundreds of times before, and doing so (for the most part) with humor and grace. I just know, were it not for the benefit of their experience, I would have made a less sensible choice for improvement to my studio.

I have Behringer Truths as well and they have been awesome. My mixes always sound great on every deck I play them on. I've come to rely on the "truth" about my mixes through these monitors. Of course there are way better ones for more bucks, but in this price range the Behringers simply enabled me to get what I've been after all along- an acurate mix that is true to form on every play back device.

I have not looked into prices on this model, but you might contact Kurt Krueger, at kurt@fullcompass.com for a quote. Their prices fluctuate, so if you don't like what you hear, wait a month and try again.
If he asks who referred you, you may tell him if you wish.
