Anybody have/heard these? I see them going for $299 a pair. Just looking for for an experienced opinion. Thanks.

I just picked up a pair to try out/evaluate . . . and I'm thinking about keeping 'em.

I don't think they sound too bad at all. I have no idea, yet, how these mixes I'm messing with are going to translate on other systems, though, so if you want to PM me in a couple weeks, I'll let you know how they work out, and if I returned them or not. :D They seem to be fairly honest, as their name implies. We'll see, though.

I've gotten a chance to play with these a lot more over the past few days.

My personal verdict (for whatever that's worth) is that now they are down to the $300 price point, you really can't go wrong with them. At one point, I believe they were going for around $400-500 or so, and at that price point, I think they were kind of on the fence.

But for $300, yea, absolutely I would say these are a great value. Everything's pretty much there that needs to be there, and it's presented relatively accurately. Over a short break-in period, one could most definitely learn to mix with these monitors and I can't see them holding someone back or being a weak link. I think I'm going to keep mine.

If you're looking for an inexpensive alternative to some thing like the Event 20/20's then these might be worth a look.

Chess- did you specifically seek these monitors out or were you just low on cash and needed powered monitors real bad?

I haven been kicking around the idea of trying them, as the reviews have been mosly favorable. And, as usual I am broke so.....

I haven't been able to find a pair of Truths to listen to in my area... GC doesn't carry them, and the other "Behringer" store has one boxed set that they won't open and no store demo models... so...

I'm looking at spending a little more money and getting either the Event TR8N or the MAudio BX8's.. both of which I've heard and sound pretty darn good. Since the TR8 is based on the Bas20/20 I'm kinda leaning that way, tho' the BX8's sound a little brighter.

The downside to all this is I'll probably buy a pair, take 'em home and listen to my old mixes on them (first mistake !!) and decide I need to redo them all !! LOL... :)

Regards,
Steve

Neither. I just kind of popped in to a local music store (really more of a DJ / Live sound place), and noticed they were going for $300. At that price, I figured I'd just pick 'em up and give 'em a spin. I wasn't really seeking anything out in particular, but I do sort of keep my eye out for things that are cheap that might be useful to me -- the fruggle guy that I am.

Jeez, if I was paying someone to record my band and I saw Behringer monitors there, I would walk out in a hurry. The ONLY place that should not be scrimped is the monitors. Everything you hear in your mix is colored by Uli.

Ouch.

Normally, I would tend to agree with you.

But if someone couldn't learn to mix on these, then I would walk out. Seriously, these things are 300 bucks and they're easy as pie. Jskillz could mix with them. :D

Yup, for $300.... How can you go wrong? I have a pair of these and they have been working fine for me...

The main thing to consider IS (do you like them?). ANY, monitor that you choose you will have to learn it's sound.... There is no such thing as a PERFECT monitor for everyone.

My suggestion is to get them... then, with the $$$ you save... treat your mix room (within reason of course). You should be set to learn your new monitors, and mix away!

I am very close to buying the Behringer Truths from musician's friend for $299. But today, my friend said he could sell me the following for $200:

Tannoy Proto-J pair of passive monitors and an Alesis 100 watt power amp.

Which would you go with?

I should mention the kind of music I will be recording. Mostly heavy, real crunchy guitar, and drum machine with double-kick beats. So lots of low-end. Sould I also consider a sub-woofer? But then I'm starting to get out of my price range. Thanks.

my suggestion is you listen to both and then make your choice... I don't see anything wrong with the Tannoy's and the alesis amp... but the setup WILL sound different than the Truth's...

Which is better? Only you can make that choice... given your personal taste...

Both choice's allow you to make a quality, tranlatable mix IMO... as long as you learn how each sounds.

Yup. You gotta' get whatever gives your ears the information they need in order to make a good mix. Simple as that.

I believe their is a misunderstanding about the Behringer Truths. People, their is a difference between the Original B2031 and the B2031a's that are on the market today. They quit making the original B2031's quite some time ago because of the close simularities to the Genelecs and the Mackie hr824's and didn't want any legal issues so, they changed the design and model number to B2031a.
