Questions to anyone with a Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer.

I am trying to get a good/loud enough sound into the mixer with out it clipping. I Can do this and get it at the 0 mark with no problem. the problem is when I try and record with that onto my computer the levels are off the chart and into the red and never leave. Even with the input on my computer set to just about nothing it is still in the red. I have lowered the line-in, input and everything else I can think to do in my computer. Am I doing something wrong?

Turn down your output fader.

When I turn down the output fader on the mixer the over all signal is less as well. It loweres the input to the computer as well as the lights showing the input from my mics.

It sounds like a feedback loop. Explain which inputs and outputs you are using.

The mics are going into the XRL inputs. Then the two 1/4" jacks from the Main Out are going into the Line In on my sound card. Please let me know if you need anymore info.

You have to turn down the output from your mixer going into the soundcard. Period. Do it.

How do you monitor your signal? Are you running the soundcard outputs back into the mixer?

If I turn down the out put to the sound card, the total input goes down as well. Do you have one of these mixers? The Main Mix (-00 to +15) is what I am asuming is the level out the the sound card. I have it set to 0 (right in the middle). This mixer has two XLR mic inputs. I am using both of them. directly under the mic inputs in the "gain" (pre-amp I am asuming). Also at the bottom of the mixer there are level 1 and level 2 both are -00 to +15, I have them both set to 0 (middle).

Directly above the Main Mix knob are the green, yellow and red lights in this order from bottom to top; 20, 0, 6 and clip. I am asuming these are monitoring the input/sound from the mics and not the level going to the sound card.

So not matter what I do I can NOT get the second set of green lights to come on (0) as then the level in the line in on the computer is gone into the red and will not come down till I lower the input on the mixer to the first set of lights (20).

I am not getting a loud enough sound into my computer and if I do it is all distorted.

No, one it goes into the sound card that is it. I go from the mics to the mixer to the sound card. The mixer has some lights showing the input (i think( level and then when I record my recording program brings up a window with a level for the input (min to max). I have to set it to the most minimum it will go of it will go into the red even though the input on the mixer is just lighting up the first set of light (20).

HELP!!!

First of all, I don't have this mixer (I have the MX802A, but I don't use it anymore).

What you are describing sounds to me like you are clipping the Analog-to-Digital converters on your soundcard, because the signal coming from the mixer is too hot/loud. Nothing you can do within the computer is going to change that, because all that is after the converters.

Clipping the converters is bad and will sound bad (digital distortion). The only way to avoid this is to record at a lower volume. That is, send a quieter signal into the computer. You can always turn it up once you've got it into the computer, but you can't get rid of the clipping once it has occurred.

So, unless I am completely misunderstanding your post (which is possible), the remedy seems simple enough, and that is, turn down the signal going into the soundcard to prevent the clipping. I don't give a shit what the meters on your mixer are telling you -- turn it down. You don't have to be pushing into the red to get a decent signal in digital recording.

What soundcard are you using? What cables are you using between the mixer and soundcard? Do you have a soundclip you can post, so we can hear what you are describing?

Don't worry about the lights on the mixer as long as they are not clipping. Use the meters on your recording software. Set the software levels to zero and adjust the UB802 output until the software meters are at the proper level.

1 you don't need to have your mixer main levels on zero. Turn down if necessary.

2 Are you are the output of the mixer is going into the line input and not a mike input (forgive me, I don't know what sort of sound card you have)?

It is going into the line in for sure... How much yellow should I see on my PC recording software window for a good volume to record at and to avoid distortion? SHold it oly be green? Some yellow? Lots of yellow?

i have the same kind of mixer. I have Behringer UB1222FX PRO Eurorack Mixer and i think most behringers are based around the same thing. So as both the inputs and outputs are both coming from the sound card into it through normal phono inputs there is only one volume adjuster for both input and output, if it is the same as mine. if youre just plugging it into a standard sound card (like i do) All you need to do is get a guitar lead or something (jack to jack) and get 1 3.5mm Mono Plug to 1/4" (3.5mm = male, 1/4" female) adaptor that will plug into the headphones socket in your soundcard and the other end (1/4", without adaptor) can just be plugged into your mixer as another input!! This way the "Cd input/output" volume control will just be for the output (going onto your PC) so you can adjust the levels and the input (coming from your PC) can be sdjusted using one of the inputs on the mixer!!!!!
