Behringer B5 Problem

I had heard a significant amount of bad things about Behringer gear's quality but hoped it wasn't true. The customer service rep at Behringer was friendly but I've still got to track down the receipt somehow.

So what do you think of Behringer now?

Well I think that the store is pretty good at standing behind what they sell....but the behringer microphone still crapped out!

Buddy: You just bought a broken microphone from someone and have absolutely no idea how it got that way.
Behringer however, replaced it for you.
Did you tell them it was a second hand mic?
Did your friend tell you the mic was broken?

Behringer has the decency to stand by the product.
Just say it.

And it's not "The store" that replaces the gear.
It's Behringer.
Did you stop dealing with the rep. that you mentioned earlier?

Jim it wasn't me that purchased the microphone it was the OP!
But like I said I have a few horror stories about behringer that made my blood boil when it came to costumer service and standing behind their products but, on the flip side I have a few items that I really like and never have had a problem with them.

Sorry, I thought the OP was still complaining in spite of being looked after.
You'll understand why that would tick me off.
Funny enough though, I looked at your name after I posted and then over at your rep points and thought "Hey, That's not like you".
I'm calm now.;)

I Thought This Thread Was Done

Well I think that the store is pretty good at standing behind what they sell....but the behringer microphone still crapped out!

That's pretty much the size of it. I would also imagine that anyone selling Behringer would be aware of its reportedly high fail rate and therefore would be very friendly about taking defectives back, as they were. They barely even looked at the receipt.

Did you tell them it was a second hand mic? Did your friend tell you the mic was broken?

As stated above, the seller did not ever use the mic. He bought it for a project that didn't happen and therefore had never opened the brand new box he sold me. Thus, he was not aware of any problem with it. If he was, would he not have returned it to the store himself? I think he would have.

And it's not "The store" that replaces the gear. It's Behringer.

How long do you think Behringer would last with their retailers if they didn't replace defective items? Any company does that. This does not make Behringer stand out as a good company. Making gear that does not have a high rate of defective returns would. I grant they make inexpensive equipment so it's great if it works. From what I have read around the internet, though, it seems not to work fairly often compared to other brands.

So what do you think of Behringer now?

I have used three pieces of Behringer gear. Two of them were secondhand-new B5 condensor mics, one of which works (for now) and one of which is the subject of this thread. The third is an ADA8000 I received brand new from a dealer on Friday and which is now on its way back to the dealer because it is defective.

I also learned in the process of sorting the ADA8000 situation out that Behringer will make the buyer pay for the shipping of defective items back to the company for replacement, so I would advise shoppers to buy Behringer gear from local outfits only where you won't have to deal with shipping fees in case the thing goes, or arrives, belly up. I would also advise shoppers to think twice about buying oversized or heavy B-gear in case the local dealer won't take it back for some reason, so that the postage won't be too high for its journey back to the factory.

Update

The other (previously functioning) mic of the pair developed the same problem this week and is now totally unusable.

In the interest of improving customer service, I am going to direct Behringer to this thread. :)
