I'm new to singing (I pretty much got into it six months ago when I started learning the guitar) and would love constructive criticism on how to improve my voice and technique from more experienced singers. Feel free to be mean if necessary, I'm aware that my singing is far from prefect and I have no real technical training.

It would also be really helpful if someone could tell me if I'm an alto, mezzo or soprano etc.
I'm not looking to become a professional, I just love to sing for fun alone and with my friends and want to improve my voice.

Here's my soundcloud and a few quick recordings that may give you a idea of my singing:

Thanks if you take the time to respond! :)

I can't post links here for some reason, this website won't let me :/
Just take out the spaces between the letters and the link will work :)

I like your voice!
You sound like an alto to me. I'd recommend checking out this video on youtube to see for yourself where you fall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IejHKpfHso
Also that video is good just to see what your vocal range is (something that's both interesting and useful to know!).

If I have any advice, it's just practice. The more you sing, the better you'll get! I definitely recommend warming up before singing. Vocal muscles, like other muscles, need to be stretched before a workout/singing session for best results. There are a lot of free videos from vocal trainers on youtube (search "vocal warm up"/"vocal warm up exercises"), but you certainly don't have to warm up as intensely as they might ask. Like, just holding mid/lower notes to start with, then moving on to another exercise of singing scales (such as this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu4fVTUXZC4) is a good way to get a quicker warm up.

Hope that helps some!

I don't think you're getting the most out of your vocal instrument. You need to put more energy into it. Also, it sounds like you're still getting the hang of things on guitar and it's holding you back. On the other hand there's no way to get better at the singing/guitar thing other than to continue to do what you're doing - i.e. keep practicing.

Be conscious of picking the right key. Tennessee Waltz seems a little low for you. Also it sounds like you're not completely familiar with the melody.

Overall I'd say you're a work in progress. Nothing wrong with that.
