Very nice, variaxman. Are those binaural recordings? There's a kind of "you are there" quality to them.

Thanks!...they are just live recordings from my bands practice. We record evrey one on to a Sony Minidisk walkman recorder for critiquing afterwards....
we use a single stereo mic out in the middle of the room.

Your version of "Two Of Us" sounded great by the way...really dug it, nice job!

So my second question is how many takes did it take to get the vox parts that well in tune - or does that just come easy for you?
Usually I go over my vocal parts with a fine-tooth comb, but this time I experimented a bit. I did three passes through the tune: (1) left guitar + lead vocal; (2) bass + harmony vocal; and (3) right guitar. No overdubs or retakes. I guess you could say that it's my homage to the original concept for the "Get Back" project (which ultimately resulted in the Let It Be album).

So, um, to answer your question, singing in tune comes easy for me, as long as the monitoring is set up right. If I can't hear myself, all bets are off.

Thanks again,
Don

Some of us have to to survive, we don't all have your chops, hoss. :) :)
I know I don't! However, I eschew editing for the most part, and usually present my "productions" and "jam tapes" in as-is condition, which for me at least does not diminish the enjoyment of listening to them, (YMMV).

I do try to get my tracks as "right" as possible before wrapping the session, though. I'm obsessed with quality and performance but perhaps not a perfectionist.

I love this thread! and I thought only the British were mad! Keep it going.

Here's my rendition of a Beatles classic

I thought you did a fantastic job on the vocals. The guitars are pretty decent too, although maybe a bit low in the mix.

But my god, those fake drums are horrendous. Seriously, it'd be better if you just muted the drums. :D

Ouch! I'm just getting started with the drum software clearly I'm not there yet :o .

But no in all seriousness thanks for that, you need good honest object criticism if you're going to improve. I also agree with you about the guitars being a bit low in the mix. I enjoyed playing the bass guitar on it.

Sometimes you do a mix and think its spot on but when you play it back after a a week or so with fresh ears it sounds different. I think sometimes because you rehease these things your perception is different to the reality. You hear it in your head rather than listening to it, if you know what I mean? If you play these recording to your friends sure they'll say that's great. That's why this forum /web site is good to play your stuff.

Thanks for the comments about the vocals too

Cheers Chris

You know man, I wouldn't have mentioned it if the rest of it had sucked. And I'm the last guy in the world who needs to be giving advice on drum programming...I was so horrendous at it that I finally had a drummer take pity on me - he records an actual kit and sends me the 7 or 8 individual tracks so I can mix them. You might try a collaboration?

Really good vocals again.

I'm gonna throw this oldie up for'ya today.:...

I've Got a Feeling!
Recorded 08/30/97 live to stereo on VHS-hifi using a stereo mic. ;)
Flawed though it may be, it's still a fun jam! [YMMV!] ;)

Amazingly good covers by everyone. Well done. I wasn't going to, but I thought I'd join in on the fun. Here are two covers, the first one being "Get Back" and the second one being "Your Mother Should Know."

1. "Get Back" - Notes: The vocals sound so terrible because I was still using a cheap $50 mic that I had somewhere. Had fun, though.

2. "Your Mother Should Know" - The first time with my new mic, the Rode NT-1A. Another fun one to do.

Both are mixed very poorly and you can hear it, but hopefully all enjoys.

Get back: Sounds nice but I'd pull the vocal back some. I'm missing the restrained sounding vocal as in the original.

Your Mother Should Know: Very nice!

Nice job. You play and sing well. The recordings sound pretty good too. I'm going to have to dig back in this thread some. I know I've missed some good ones.

I don't like the synthy quality to e'thing,...

but they're good songs & well played, nonetheless. Thanx! ;)

Matthew M, VERY cool sir. And Dave, you are the most prolific track bandit of all time. I'm not worthy sir.

I just love music, plain & simple!

I feel I have a few good jams still left in me, but you're the real producer on this board!
Yeah, yeah, yeah! ;)

100% agree. Nice job Scouse. Get them drums in shape and you got a good one here. I also thought the lead guitar progressively went too low in the mix but the solo was too loud.

Sounds like a fun jam Dave. I'm not crazy about the recording but otherwise I dig it, especially the feel. Good job man.

Yeah,...

that's the true nature of "jam tapes" vs. "productions".
Thanx!! ;)

I dig your jam tapes too. :) I'd like to hear some "production" stuff from you too though.

She Said She Said - Streaming

Tomorrow Never Knows - Streaming

She Said She Said - Download

Tomorrow Never Knows - Download

Good stuff. I really like the drums and guitar sound in Tomorrow Never Knows. Very live sounding.
