I have a big problem. My band and I have just recorded a song and the bass guitar is too loud. I found this out because we burnt it onto a CD and listened to it on my drummer's stereo and he has one of the best stereos' that I know of. When playing back on the computer, the bass is almost non existant. I don't know how to make the bass mix evenly with the song when I can't hear it. How can I make the bass audiable so I can mix it? Please help me!

Sincerely,

Welp, this is Equipment 101 - Why Do I Need Reference Monitors?

If you can't monitor properly, it's very very hard to make a mix that'll translate well across a variety of systems. You're just going to have to work with what you've got. Try headphones, car stereos, your friend's stereo, and keep making adjustments until you get something that works.

Then for the future, start thinking about buying a decent soundcard and some monitors. Mixing becomes a lot more enjoyable once you can hear what's happening!

anubis26,

Yes to what Slackmaster had to say. I couldn't afford good reference monitors at first so I bought Sony MDR 7506 headphones. Now that I have good reference monitors I still rely on a listen with the headphones to give a different perspective.

Thank you!

Thank you, guys. I've tried to use headphones but for somestrange reason, that dosn't seem to work either. But, I will consider getting better monitors and see what happens. Again, thanks.

Headphones have to be a "professional" quality. Not just any headphone will give you good results.....just like monitors.
