Bare Minimum Drums or none

I've been kicking around all kinds of ideas.
Cowbell, Wood Blocks, Bongos, Electric Drums
All I really need to get one step up from abstract is>
A High Hat, Snare, and Small Bass Drum.
It's simple but much better that the alturnitives (metronome)
What convinced me is Ted Nugents "Hey Baby"

I'm using a $350 Pulse kit my wife bought me for Valentines day...that included cymbals. I'm not saying it's a great sounding kit, but beats the hell out of a drum machine.
