Greetings to all who know and/or remember me and all who are still trying to forget;

I've had and exciting couple months away from the clinic and have been going crazy trying to get back into it.Time is of the essence, always.First things first:

MBuster-What's the deal man?You want we should finish the collab? I hope you aren't sore at me for dropping outta sight. It was all due to circumstances that were way beyond my control.Things are much better now, I swear...PM me,will ya!?

Ah, and now that that's done... this is one I did in about a day. I had the idea and the main riff, so I spent a coupla nights doing the drums in FruityLoops ( I gotta get some better samples  ). Then I finally got a day off (last Tuesday actually) and I did the guitars and vox. The intro and outro were written on the spot and the lyrics had been written about a month earlier and applied to the basic idea. A rough mix told me that I really do suck at mixing and a further listen to the MP3 at a friend's house made me realize mixing on $50 Emerson computer speakers is NOT the way to do it.This mix you'll hear was done in the headphones.

Brutal honesty always appretiated.

SHOCK ABSORBER

...last one on the list

Sounds pretty good for a headphone mix!

It's late here and I can't really crank it up for a proper listen.

So far though, it sounds like a pretty creative piece of work.

I liked the guitar work. It had some real bite to it!

Vocals were on the cloudy side in spots and hard to understand all the lyrics on the first pass.

I liked the lifted dialog sample at the end.....I hope you had permission to use it?

Cheers! :)

Welcome back.

Love the vocals in this. Maybe a little sloppy in parts, but that's what I like. Kind of punk sounding rather than just slick metal.

Great song and arrangement. Cool guitars.

Only thing I'd criticize is the drums. If nothing else I'd say bring them up. They sound pretty weak back there. But it might only be a matter of being buried.

Hi!

I hear ya about programming drums. I use Fruityloops for drums as well, and I suck at drum programming. So, I"m pretty damn impressed with what you were able to do there.

I agree with the above. Bring the drums up, and maybe add some reverb to them so as to beef them up.

I like pretty much everything else about this mix. The guitars, vocs, etc. Actually, the mix sounds kinda dry. maybe add a smidgen of reverb to everything?

Oh god...that's my answer to everything...

Like the sample too...

Hey WISC.....

I really like the different parts to this song. It's a good idea IMO in this genre to mix it up with dynamics. Loud and quiet parts........
Normally this stuff doesn't do it for me, but there was something extra here that kept me hooked all the way through.
Good Work.

I thought the drums were programmed very well.
I program in Sonic's drum editor.
After i finish the basic arrangement I can go back and change up the volume or attack (velocity) of specific drum notes and it tends to give the track a more human quality.
Can you do that in Froot Loops?

Reply to ya's

Ghost-Thanx for your time.Lyrics:

The only true freedom is inside your head
Don't follow the cattle, don't listen to regret
Have you mistaken my advice, with antitrust
If you lead with your eyes, to battle you are...

Beat that kid, he's not worth anything
Not a dime not a cent until his will is bent
Beat that kid, he's not worth anything
Not a penny, not a shit until his lip is split

I am the shock absorber
Making springs with my bones
Inhuman shock absorber

I am the shock absorber
Make an airbag with my head
Unhuman shock absorber

And now you want to know when...
The pain will end
Never, never

All we have left to do is justify

Lie to that kid, he's just not smart enough
An idiot, no luck, you suck
Beat that kid, he's just not strong enough
An idiot, no luck, well it's too late I'm fucked

I am the shock absorber
Make an airbag with my head
Inhuman shock absorber

I am the shock absorber
Making springs with my bones
Unhuman shock absorber

As far as the sample at the end, I could give a f*ck about copyrights when it comes to movies. Those actors are not making personal statements, they are reading someone elses ideas...and getting paid, so f*ck 'em. I don't expect to make any money off this song anyway

Fprod-Hey,thanx.I wanted a looseness in the vocals.Kinda like a desperate, neurotic, manic state...okay you got me.This was squeezed into a 6 hour window that had to include all guitar tracks and all vocal tracks and a bit of on the spot writing and a bit of editing/mixing. It was alot for 1/4 of a day, so if it sounds rushed , it was. My drum samples are for shit!!!That's what you get for free...:(

Shakey-I'm going with the verb on the whole mix idea, thanx. I'll repost in a coupla days...

heavyD-You can do it in Fruity but it's only a velocity adjustment not an actual modified hit. It's basically a glorified volume control for each hit. I know the method your reffering to, I don't like to abuse it too much cuz I think it can take away as much as add something. So glad it worked for ya, THANX 4tha listen.

Very angry... I like it.

I think this song would be top notch if the vocals were a little meaner and stronger. Sometimes it getts kind of whinney. Well anyway Im inpressed

Hey man.......glad to see ya' back although I didn't miss typing all those periods in your name! :D

Song is cool but a little lightweight sounding to be.......needs to be heavier and darker soundwise for this type of music. Also, I hear a few pitch issues in the vox. Overall though, the performance is very nice......kust bring up the low mids and lows some.

Welcome back, dude!

Dig that Charlie style drum programming. Only thing I didn't dig was the cymbals, especially that double-time closed hat. Too MIDI.

Nice job on the guitars. Thick 'n meaty.

The vocals could use some presence.

Cool tune!

your beeper ain't beeping again.. call a brother when you get a chance.. try to hit me up on the cell if you see this at lunch..

Hey Dan, how's it going man!

Cool song. I like the doubled vocal in the intro. Pretty tight.

Overall the production is really cool. I'm not sure why, but I think the stereo field could actually be narrowed here. There's almost too much space to my ears. I feel weird just saying that. But I think it's the heavy guitars and some of the hard panned vocals that sound a little wide to me. I don't know if anyone else said anything about that, so use your own judgement of course.

Dark tune man. Nothing wrong with that. :)

well hello to you to SLuiCe, opps, how many Dan(s) do we have?

W.I.S.C., good tunage. Good to hear from you again. Welcome back. The overall feel to this tune is anger, imo. so the title works.

Dan

I really liked the guitar parts. They worked very well together. Nice doubling on both the guits and vocals.

In the hardpanned doubled vox from :40-:50 it's easy to tell on headphones that they're doubled. For some reason I think you wanted that as an effect. Just in case, I thought I'd mention it.

The vocals are having a little trouble poking through. Some pretty heavy guitars to get past.

Oh yeah, very cool harmonies.

There's about 10 seconds of silence past the end of the song. Don't know if you realized...

Trip...
