My guitarist received his new B52 head from Music123 yesterday. When it arrived the first thing he noticed was it was ice cold. My other guitarist had tubes blow because of the cold so we were concerned that the same thing might have happened. When he plugged it into the cab and turned it on only one of the tubes was lit and the volume was abnormally low. Could this be a defect? Or are the tubes already blown?

Any piece of electronic equipment that has been in the cold, including guitars, should be allowed to warm up to room temperature BEFORE plugging in and turning on and using.

Guitars should be left in the case unopened until they reach room temp.

The quick change in temp causes condensation to form on electronic equipment and the wait allows that condensation to dissipate.

It's happened to me a few times, and I've learned my lesson.

Of course, the way it was handled during shipping may have blown the tubes as well. But it's good practice to follow the above advice so that yer equipment will remain in top form.
