Hey everyone,
I have a Fostex B16 that I have been using. Recently, during playback the machine would speed up and then slow down very quickly (or was it the other way around?).
This has happened maybe 4 or 5 times in the last month, so it's not like it's a constant thing, so it's a little hard to pinpoint. I have changed the belt on this machine and the pinch roller looks fine (to me). Also, this has happened before not long after I have cleaned the tape path. Using fairly new rmgi sm911 tape.
The manual gives instructions on how to set the tape tension guides sensor by using a voltage. I tried resetting this when I first got the machine (the voltage was way off according to the manual) and the the machine went crazy. So, I set the sensors for the tape lifters back where they were at (using the original voltage). I realize these tension arms do not "set" the tension per se, but thought I would see how close they were anyway to what the manual called for.
I thought maybe the actual reel tape tension was maybe a little off which was causing the voltage to be off on the sensors. For the tension on the reels you adjust by little pots inside the machine.
Since I don't have a tentelometer and the machine was basically running ok, I decided to just leave it be. Now that this intermittent speed thing has been popping up every once in a while I thought it may have something to do with the tension.
Does anyone know of a way to get in the ballpark with setting the tension without a tentelometer? Even if it's a little crude. I have spring scales.
Thanks for any help!!!
