I bought an AWE 64 gold to record music
However I have had nothingbut bother with it.
I was wanting to record some thing off my 4 track (Tascam 424 mk2) the sound card only has 1 input so using a 2 into 1 cable I tried to record. The amount of background noise is to bad to use. I was wanting to master onto the HD.
I also tried to link my POD up to the midi socket without success it doesn't recognise the pod at the other end.
I also dont like the gm sound fonts that I have heard so far. They all sound like cheap caio keyboards.
Unless someone has any other Idea I will be buyin a new sound card but of course I can't afford an expensive pro card.
Any recommendations ?

Thanks
Steve

I've seen the Gina for under $300 during a Guitar Satan blowout. Also look at the MIDIman, the ISIS and Lexicons Core2. Sounds like a miniplug that doesn't quite fit the jack. Regular readers at this site will know the pain and frustration that can accompany the use of 1/8" miniplugs. And I want to know- why did creative opt for gold plated RCA jacks on the output while limiting the input to miniplug? While the AWE 64 won't be as quiet as the Gina- unless you're using the digital I/O, it shouldn't be as noisy as you describe. The only decent wavetable sounds I've heard are from an external module.

I have the Creative SoundBlaster PCI64 which is not noisy compared to other Creative cards. Now that's because it used to be an Ensoniq card until Creative Technology bought over them and call the card a SoundBlaster. It's "cheap and good". <- almost always my motto. Have fun !

Yes, you should change your card but when you do, if your card is mainly for recording then look for one that suites that pourpose (that excludes most sound blaster cards). if you go to www.midiman.com
they have a wide variety of cheap but good soundcards starting at under $200.
