I'm having a hard time choosing between the Yamaha AW4416 and the Yamaha 2816. I've heard the AW4416 has no audio playback in waveform edit mode. Is the AW2816 the same way? I've also heard about extremely long CD record times on the AW4416. What about the record times on the 2816? Does anyone know what new fixes and upgrades are in V2.0 OS for the 4416?

Yo Zurg of the Klingon Empire:

When the DAW Yam 2816 first came out, it was equipped with some better stuff than the 4416. Then Yamaha started to pack the 4416 with what was already in the 2816.

I can't quite answer your technical question about wave files, but you can get that information from Yamaha on their site. As well, there are a couple of sites out there with boards like this one. Try punching in Yamaha 4416 or Yamaha 2816 and see what comes up.

I have been studying by box for a month; I found out that I'd better have a UPS as the 2816, probably the 4416, can get their hard drive whacked by a power outage. It doesn't happen often, but my neighborhood loses power several times a year. So, to protect my 2816, I have the UPS coming in Monday from Full Compass.

I could stand to lose the recorded tracks, but to whack out the hard drive would not make me happy.

Be sure, if you get either unit, that you read the shut down procedure. For the 2816, it's on page 12. I read that and wrote down the couple of steps and that direction rests right beside my unit.

Finally, the sound is superb. The manual for either unit, and their touted video, are vacuums. The chick in my video starts to speak at about 440 words per minute after the first three minutes of the video -- but it does help to see the video. You can get a video free when you register your unit with Yamaha on the net.

Enjoy your unit because, for the money, it's dynamite.

G.H.

I got your email. I actually don't know what the consequences are of losing power or not shutting down a 2816 correctly. I'd wait till the UPS shows up, if I were you...

Thanks Green Hornet,

Keep me informed about how your 2816 is making out because I think that's the direction I'm going. Does it take a long time to burn a song to CD on the 2816? Also, I noticed Yamaha has a guitar FX template update on their website you can download for the 2816. Thanks again.
