In today's music environment - and this economy - it's difficult for a well known artist to sell albums let alone someone just doing it as a hobby. I'm an older guy (48) who has loved the "physical" aspect to album releases - the artwork, liner notes, lyrics and have done so since the days of LP's (well, actually 8-track if you must know).

So I'm setting my music free.

Some of you have known me for years as 'Elektroniqa', but I've recently changed my moniker to 'Avionik'. My music is heavy electronics and percussion/drum laden and is influenced by a broad swath of artists including: Skinny Puppy, OMD, Elton John, VNV Nation, Jean Michel Jarre, Gary Numan, Klaatu and likely the Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Morrissey and others who's ability as songwriters I envy.

I have used Cakewalk sequencers exclusively as my compositional tools since Cakewalk 3.0 for DOS. I now employ Sonar Producer 8, Project V 2.51 and Kinetic 2. I also license an extensive list of soft-synths and FX, sample libraries, and have enjoyed using racks of hardware for the past 27 years. I write and sing my own lyrics, although my latest album is my first without vocals.

On to the music then! My new album is 'Disarticulated' by Avionik (um, me). Released on February 9, 2009, this album has been more than a year in the making. What you will find will take you on a journey through a landscape of tribal beats and unconventional multi-layered percussion, static and glitch-laden neo-industrial intelligent dance music, EBM, creepy Beatle-esque nightmares ala 'Revolution #9', lush strings and evil harmonics. While the landscape may change, the penchant for memorable melodies and retaining listener interest remains. This is my most ambitious production to date.

You can now download the entire album, and my 5 previous albums "Exagerrated Sense of Self", "Impure Ice", "Looking for Myself While Hiding", "Hot Sun Ate The Sky", and "Droplets of Water and Air" in high quality 320kbps MP3 format (properly tagged and with album covers for importing into your iTunes or Windows Media library), or lossless FLAC format which will expand to the original WAV files for burning a CDR.

One of the great things about writing and recording music over a long period of time is that one can look back and reflect on the progress they've made over the period of time. Similar to photography, there is just so much to learn. And as the tools change/improve there is a never-ending opportunity to learn and an ability to improve both the quantity and quality of our output. I don't release everything I write; I have a boatload of crap songs (if you want to call them that) sitting on my hard drive. The albums above represent the best of what I am able to accomplish in my home studio - unsigned and unfunded. This is a hobby. A most enjoyable one.

I hope you find something that interests you in the 82 songs represented by these albums. And if so, feedback is appreciated.

Sorry for being dense, but where would I hear your albums? Can you post a link?

That's an accomplished output by the way. I have been writing probably for a similar length of time but only a small percentage of my stuff has ever been recorded. Many are relieved to hear that! :D

The link is right there - kevinburke.ca. The system won't let my make it a hyperlink until I have a certain number of posts.

Thanks for listening!

Don't be offended but I have some ironing to do and I'm going to listen whilst ironing! :D

Sadly I downloaded the MP3 of your latest album twice but it was corrupted both times. I'll try again another time.

Sorry about the corrupt archive. Strange that I didn't receive any errors when uploading the zipfiles to my site. In any case, I'm now confirming the integrity of each album, but can tell you that both the MP3 and FLAC of my album 'Disarticulated' have now been checked.

Thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated!
