AUDIOBOX USB Hummmmmm

Okay... first report....

I couldn't stand the wait... so I took a break from work and plugged in everything and turned things one... NO HUM!!!!!!!! yeah!

I set up the device for use with Studio One v2 and found hum in headset when i started on a project (not before opening a new project). Closed Studio One and brought it back up and did a new project again and no hum that time. So initial results are positive, but I have a LOT of testing to do to have a reasonably formed thought on the full solution. But what I seen so far would suggest that this bad boy is a real keeper... (so Jimmy I'm thinking I'm gonna owe you some money)!

I'm thrilled not to have the hum! I'm guessing there is something wrong with the AudioBox USB I have because i've not heard any of the same issues from anyone else with that unit.

I will follow up after i've had some time with it.

So Kip....I sure hope all is well with your limbs and internet connection. I would expect at least a reply by now if something tragic has not happened.

This may be the first time I have been screwed over by a member here. No biggie. I have been taken for much worse. It just sucks to help someone out and be dissed. I go out of my way for members that I hope to help out in any way I can.

Oh, by the way I have his address (and full name) and also have 2 members of my family in the state he resides in. One of them is a social worker. I bet I find him if he is in fact attempting to screw me over.

@ KIP: Anyway, whatever problem it is that has caused you to not respond, get over it. I will pay for return shipping if that is the issue. I was really just hoping to help you out man. Please do not make this an issue.

Not sure what happened Jimmy... I did respond here on the forum but I'm guessing that it didn't post, as it should have. No I'm thrilled with the TASCAM.

As follow up... NO HUM! Pleasantly unexpected bonus is that the TASCAM compared to the the AudioBox has a lot stronger output levels. I can drive the PA to feedback levels with the TASCAM about half way up. Full tilt on the AudoBox was a challenge for it to even provide a sufficient wave form to have a decent recording.

I've been busy busy so I hadn't noticed that my earlier message didn't post properly for whatever reason and was just coming in to check and see how you'd like to get paid... Can I send it paypal? Check? What works best for you? PM me and let me know and I will get it out to ya.

As I said I have been busier than a one arm wall paper hanger, but the TASCAM has performed well above any hope. She's a keeper for sure!

Hey y'all! Thought I would put this up as a exclamation point on this thread. FINALLY got some time to piddle in the studio and did this first attempt at a full recording. Very simple, just me and my Zager guitar. Little rough around the edges, but I'm please with it as a first time attempt. I'm pretty sure with more experience and practice that this will improve.


Thanks to all that have help by contributing and especially Jimmy who was very influential in making this happen.

Very nice man.

I would lay off the vocal doubling effect a bit tho. Is that predelay on a reverb and/or a pitch shift/delay? If that is a truly recorded double, you are very accurate. That is the reason I ask is that the consonants are very in sync. Though makes it feel quite less personal IMO.

There is a bit of noise noticeable at the intro, but not sure that isn't your environment.

I would suggest placing this in the MP3 Clinic if you wish alternate advices.

My 'studio' is not much of a studio from any standard so the noise could be neighbors or any number of computers that are running in here. Was my first shot and I'm getting dialed in as I go so before I start bouncing it off others want to hone it down a bit first. Future wise I'm sure I'll be putting some things over there for review.

Understood man. I am still curious about the effect you used on the vocal for this track.

I am having a great one! Nasty cold and have deadline so working through it. Gotta keep customers happy........

Oh missed that entirely.. and part of my learning curve. The reason I was so broke was that I had dropped a wad on the Harmony-G XT processor from TC Helcom. I didn't use any harmony voices from the device on that recording. there was a double effect and some reverb is about all.

Well then, turn down the doubler effect IMO. I used to love that kind of sound at first years ago, later learned that less is more when it comes to reverb and doubling (short delay). It is typical to overdo such effects when one personally feels uncomfortable about a performance. Seems to mask them I suppose. Best to get the performance right, then add what the song needs. Not as a driving of the vocal.

Just my 2 cents.
