Audio-Technica AT3035

Hi im looking to buy a nice condenser mic to run through my mixer that wont kill me in the bank and the audio-technica at30035 seems like a nice deal. ive heard some good things about it. i was wondering if any of you have used it and what your thoughts on it are.

I liked the sound of this mic very much. However it wasnt as detailed as I like my mics to be.
 
Try out the Studio Projects B3 too, costs less than the AT3050,
and is multi-pattern.

I have the AT3035. I don't have the B3 but I have a B1. The 3035 is nice but for me I now think the B3 would be a better choice. If you plan on spending $200 for a 3035 I'd tell you think about buying a used AT4033. Usually go between $200 and $225. I have the 4033 and that's a good multi purpose mic with a classic sound.

I've had a 3035 ($110 used) for a little while and just got a Rode NT3 ($100 new). The AT in comparison to, say, an SM58 is awesome. Clear and uncolored vocals. Not so great on acoustic guitar--not detailed. The NT3 is really something on guitar-crystal clear without ever being too bright, and pretty nice on the voices I've tried it on. Better defintion on the vocals, compared to the 3035, with as solid a bottom, but I don't know which I like better yet. I just record with my friends in my house, so understand this isn't a pro comparison. The only other large diaphragm I've tried is an Oktava 319, which I sent back after a day. Digital recordings sounded like a cassette without Dolby, it was so noisy.

Could you say a little more about how the sounds of the 3035 and 4033 differ?
 
Eric, with all due respect, your SM58 is an excellent microphone.
It just needs a suitable mic pre to make it shine, more than a
condenser would. Glad to hear you like your AT3035 though.

The 4033 is a richer sound to me. Even makes my vocals sound decent. I also find I can place the 4033 at different distances from what I'm micing with nice results. The 3035 to me just dosen't sound good unless your right on top of it.
