After some experimentations, it turns out the answer was that everything was a little bit too hot in my recording chain, ending with peaks and short parts reaching some slightly high levels, hence the distortion feeling I've got. Readjusting the gains while recording and mixing solved the issue.
I still find that my recordings sound hard/harsh, but that's probably related to a singer/recording technique/recording room issue, maybe also partly caused by the NT2, a lot of people seem to claim this is a harsh sounding microphone (though a bit of EQ seems to tame it, I can't seem to find a sweet spot to make it sound more "natural").
