I just uploaded a thread about 3 hours ago stating that I am not getting any sound out of the audio interface that I am using. Well I have that problem situated but now the problem is I can't hear any thing I am recording while recording as well as the metronome. I have the AI plugged in and I can record, but until I unplug the AI I can't hear anything, not even on itunes. So my question is do I need to find/buy some speakers to plug into my AI so that the sound will come out of the speakers instead of my laptop or is there a more simple way to get the sound to come straight out of my laptop. Thanks.

...do I need to find/buy some speakers to plug into my AI so that the sound will come out of the speakers instead of my laptop...
there's your solution.
i don't think there is a way to play back anything with laptop speakers if you use external interface.

Well i just went and found some speakers from my old computer and still it doesn't play the sound through the speakers once the interface is hooked up. ARGH what I'm I doing wrong?

Need more info

What interface are you using...what recording software ect...what type of laptop do you own...is it old.

Just wondering what your working with...it may be easier to help once we know what your working with.

You need to go into your DAW "Preferences" and "Options" menus and look for "Audio".
That's where you designate your lines in & out.
Also, make sure that your laptop speakers aren't muted.

First off, immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:
Home Recording for Musicians by Jeff Strong - $15
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/04...mp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0470385421
(Wish I'd had that when I started; would have saved me lots of money and time and grief)
You can also pick up this book in most any Borders or Barnes&Noble in the Music Books section!

I have a Macbook Pro with an intel core 2 duo processor with 2 Gb of memory. I just purchased Logic Studio 9 a few days ago and my friend just currently let me borrow his Lexicon Omega audio interface * not the best but it will do.*

I thought the problem was I didn't have speakers hooked up to the interface, so I went and grabbed my computer speakers and while it does work its not very loud. Also since I plugged the speakers in when I go back to logic it now shows no signal what so ever.

You can use the onboard soundcard on a MBP for playback with Logic, but it won't be useful for recording. It's not ideal though.

Given that you were going to use laptop speakers to begin with, why not get a pair of headphones and plug them into the headphone slot on the MBP and mess around? It's enough to get you started anyway.

I have a pair of headphones and that was the first thing I tried, but I get absolutely no sound out of anything unless I unhook the USB from the MBP then I can hear things again.

**EDIT**
I tried headphones again ( a different pair) and they work perfectly I can hear everything even when i play the guitar. The only problem now is that when i press record it wont record. It reads it like i'm not playing anything, then it says recording error while trying to sync audio and MIDI. Any Ideas?

**EDIT 2** =]

I fixed the error problem, but It still doesn't want to pick up any sound from my guitar to the DAW. Which is weird because it worked earlier, so i assume I messed something up for it not to send any signal?

maybe you are trying to record wrong input.
or maybe the track isn't armed? (it should be the R button next to mute and solo buttons)
