I have approximately 30 minutes of a taped conversation on cassette. Is there any way at all to be able to tell if during the taping of that conversation, the cassette machine was being turned on and off at different intervals. If this is a possibility, does it have to be the original cassette recording or is a copy okay.

Thanks for your help!

I'll lend my 2 cents...listen for subtle noises, changes in volume/quality...etc. If it sounds like a constant flow, with no noises, or anything like that, chances are there are no pauses. In many cassette recorders you'll get a little quiet 'blip' or 'pop' type noise when you hit record or stop it....

Sounds like a case for the FBI involving threats, stalking, or fraud.....and if you mean by stop/starting, a "pause" function was used instead of the actual on/off, it would be harder to tell....in which case it might necessary for the actual machine doing the original recording be examined and used for a test of either, to capture the exact sound/non-sounds to compare them...seems like a match would equal a bust, or at least, an edit...check yer local library for wire tapping laws to see if you're pro or con....literally....gibs
