Hey there.

I just bought an XLR cable with a P2 adapter for my microphone input for my Folk Acoustic Guitar Giannini to try out some recordings.

I thought Audacity would record, but I only hear the sound on my headphones; it won't record the sound played.

Hope you guys could give me some tips to effectively record using Audacity.

Thanks.

Hi Tijolo and welcome.

Not ever so sure what an "XLR with P2 adapter" is but I suspect it is a microphone to USB converter?

If so, it should work with Audacity but, (and this happens a lot here!) we all wish you had asked here first before you bought ANY recording gear. A modest Audio Interface such as the Alesis i02 would have served you much better. However, let's see if I can help in the present circumstances?

Top left of the Audacity pane is Edit, left click, lclk Preferences and you get a list of devices . The XLR "thing" should be found as "USB Microphone" or "Microphone CODEC" in any case you should be able to work out what it is called and select it.

If not, look above at "Host:" (aka Drivers). My PC is set for MME and recognises the ESI 1010e soundcard. Yours should see the XLR device.

Top dead centre is a wee microphone icon and just below right of it an arrow? Click it and set "Monitor Recording Levels. This will show the signal from the mic WHEN you have the other stuff sorted!

It has to be said that you need a fair bit of gain and a low noise setup to record acoustic guitar, especially a gut stringer! Try all I have said but I fear even if you get things working the results are not going to be very satisfying.

Meant to say...If you are still stuck I can post some screen grabs od Audacity, unless some other kind person obliges?

Dave.

Guys, I could manage to do it!

It was just an output and input configuration... I only had to activate my "estereo mix" in Control panel>sound>microphone.

But thanks anyway for the help... I'm brazilian so there may be some differences in nomeclature and product-wise availability.

I know I can count on you guys!

Tijolo.
