AMD Athlon XP2400+ Processor Thoroughbred Core | motherboard and fan questions

I have an AMD Athlon XP2400+ on a run of the mill cheap motherboard which is currently running linux.

I have been thinking about pulling the chip and other quality components and putting them on a new motherboard which is well suited for Audio (specifically, 44.1/24 audio and limited MIDI) in Sonar. The cards which I would want this to work well with include the EMU1212m and the RME Fireface.

I would wipe linux completely and do a fresh install of XP SP1.

I have another DAW which runs well built around dual 2600 athlon chips which is running a few Q10's so I do not have a problem with AMD chips, I am just looking to be pointed in the right direction as far as good motherboards for XP2400+ and audio.

Anyone running sonar with a XP2400+ chip? Any suggestions of motherboards?

Also, curious about fan noise. My 2600+ fans are very quiet. My XP2400+ sounds like a jet plane taking off. Is there any reason to believe that the fans for a 3200 will be louder? Or is it that I just have cheaper loud components? I have upgraded both my powersupply and the cpu fan to quieter components, but it is still loud. How much difference does the case make?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've got an Asus A7N8X-X mb running an Athlon 3000+ which I am more than happy with. It can run a 3200+. I'm running 512 MB of PC3200 @ 400 mHz without ever a problem.
As far as fans on mb's are concerned, count them, Asus had only one for the CPU whereas other brands might have at least two. Also pick a video card with no fan!
Your question is big really. I did a lot of custom work to mine to get it quite. I dropped the speed of the power supply fan and cut out some of the power supply fan support grates to improve air flow and installed a Zalman adjustable CPU fan. I also removed the case fan and put some strips of duct tape on the inside of the case cover to absorb vibration noise.
One way huge difference was the harddrives. I installed Seagates and the noise went way down.
The quieter you want it, the hotter it will run because you've got to slow the fans down and keep fan count to a minimum. The HDs are the exception to this. Getting your system quiet is a project unto itself. This is no one quick fix.
A Dell computer is the exception. They run super quiet because they are designed from the ground up to be quiet, funny they don't advertise that feature though.

I have a 3200 running on a dfi board nf-400 or something like that. It's pretty much silent since the fans have been replaced with water and the power supply is made by zalman. You can put a mic up to the case crank the pre and barely hear a thing.

check the rme tech support, they seem to have identified a problem with fireface, firewire, nvidia nforce4 glue chipset. I would check out the emu web support. calkwalk may have some very specific reccommendations, they usually do.

if you do a search on quiet pc you will find several places that sell specialist cases, fans, coolers, etd.

the latest issue of CPU mag has a how to on building a quiet pc.

My Bad

Hold on... as I continued researching I realized that my head was lodged in my ass. The chip I have is:

AMD Athlon XP2400+ Processor Thoroughbred Core

I editted my original message.
