Hello all,

I would like to know how an AT4040 compares to a KSM27 if anyone knows from experience. I'm not asking what mic will sound better on my voice, just how the two compare. I'm looking to replace my KSM27 with somehing in the same ballpark (price range too!), pretty transparent. Thanks in advance.

Only have the AT4040. But some one did a fairly detailed review of these two.

The outcome was their nearly identical, both a little to crisp on the high end.
The AT being a better per buck value.

You might want to do a search at soundonsound.com the article may have been buried there.

I like mine seems to work good for most jobs.

I just bought the ksm27 as an alternate flavor to the 4040. I think that the KSM27 is a smoother sounding mic, better for polish and on certain sources is gold. My ecperience with the 4040 is the better sounding the source, the better performer is the mic. 4040 seems to pick up a little more room than does the Shure.

All this of course, IMHO.

Pete

Thanks for the responses,

I'm on my way over to soundonsound. Pete which do you prefer for personally for your vox? I love the ksm27 but due to shure shipping out all of those defective ones this year I refuse to repurchase another one, so I'm looking for as close as I can get to it (sound quality, frequency response etc...).

I really like the Shure mics, ksm27, ksm44, and I like the 4040.

If I was buying another mic in that price range I think I would purchase an ADK Hamburg or an M Audio Solaris, the latter of which I have owned. It was like a poor man's KSM44. I am a little scared of the Groove Tubes/Sterling Audio stuff as they really pick up a ton of room noise.

Hope that helps.

Pete
