what about steel stringed acoustic guitar? Btw, I need a compressor recommenedation and would like to keep it under $150...this applies to used compressors as well. I basically need it to limit the input levels from clipping, especially with the at3035. Suggestions?

Well, I don't own one (yet), but people cannot seem to say enough about FMR's RNC (Really Nice Compressor). I believe it sells for about $175 new, and of course eBay will have it for less. Supposedly rated among the best compressors for under $1000. Do a search for it on this board.

Sen, I would be very interested to hear a classical guitar recorded with the 3035, as I will hopefully be getting both in the near future. Is it possible for you to post a clip of a recording of a clasical guitar where you used the mic? Thanks.

I, too use the AT3035 with classical guitar. I was supposed to record something last weekend but couldn't due to a sinus infection. If I am able to get the recording done within the next week, I will post something. BTW, I record in stereo so it might give a nice contrast.

Guitarlover- that would be awesome, I'm looking forward to it :)

Yeah guys not a problem. The only thing I have to do is ask the author for the permission, but it shouldn't be a big deal with him..He's coming in on sunday, but I'll try to organize the clip for you even earlier :)

what preamp and mic settings did he use?
Sorry for the delayed response! Knowing him it was his Alesis32 mixer's pres.

Sen after hearing that sound clip, it seems you picked THE RIGHT mic for that instrument, the silky high-end response character of the AT3035 matches that classical nylon? stringed guitar very well.. All in all, I'd say the recording has a very pleasing voice :). nice work! :o

Hey thanks a lot. Sounds real nice. The level seemed a bit quiet, how far away from the guitar were you?

yeah that's a raw version that I just quickly mixed down for you guys from Cubase. The version on the CD is a bit louder :)
mic was probably a foot from the guitar (maybe a bit less)

You asked for it, you got it.

I have uploaded a piece in mp3 format. I hope to hell you aren't a music critique. It is definitely Not my best work but the weather is nice and my wife has me doing a lot of yard work. It should however, give a good idea of the sound of the mic. Details are as follows:

Piece: "Evocacion" from Suite del Recuerdo by Jose Merlin

Mics: AT3035, stereo in an X-Y config.

Preamp: M-Audio - DMP-3

Recorder: Fostex MR-8

Mixed down with Cakewalk 2004

The ONLY thing I did to this audio was add a 3db boost, nothing else.

All I ask is that you be kind. I am a hobbyist and started recording solely to critique my playing and my tone.

I hope this link works:

Hi,

I can't download it either. I don't know what the problem is. Feel free to PM me and I'll send you either the mp3 (1.7meg) or the .wav (23 meg) files.

If I get time, I'll try to figure out why the file didn't upload correctly.

Steve

Let's try this link. I had some problems with the upload as it turns out.

So what else is new! :D

Same rules as above apply. :)
