I just noticed in REAPER preferences, that the drop down menu in "ASIO Driver" gives me the choice of "US-1800" or "US-1800 ASIO driver". I never noticed that choice before I changed interfaces. I happen to have it on "US-1800" and it's working fine, but should I have it on "US-1800 ASIO Driver" instead?

I've never understood this whole ASIO driver thing, and I don't really need it explained to me. But I do wonder if I have it on the wrong setting.

Thanx.

EDIT:

AH shit never mind. I should have looked closer. It's giving me the choice of "US-1800" or "US-800 ASIO Driver" (My old interface). Now, I'm just curious why it says "US-800 ASIO Driver" for the old interface, and just "US-1800" for the new one.

Hopefully the 1800 driver is ASIO. Odd that they wouldn't explicitly say that it is.

ASIO good. ASIO fast. It basically skips a bunch of internal processing and forms a very fast and direct signal path with very low latency.

Thanx a lot Tad. I see. Well, I did a few quick test recordings yesterday and the latency seems to be fine, so hopefully all is good. I haven't done a multiple track (drum) recording yet, so I guess I'll find out then.

You do need to find a way to get to that 'Control Panel' you posted in the other thread that showed the Cubase screenshot. That little one that shows 'Latency' at 'Normal' is where you would change the buffer size when you need. I have no clue about Reaper so maybe post the question as to how to get to it there. The 800 control panel was completely separate from Cubase when I used it. Not so for the 1800.

Yes the 1800 driver is ASIO. I can only guess that where you select the driver for the 1800 in Reaper, that there is some link to the control panel for it.

BTW, the 1800 does not use typical buffer settings. Like '64/96/128/2048 Samples'. Only 'Low/Normal/or High' Latency settings from my memory of usage.

Sorry for late reply about this. I have been friggen slammed at work. Have a session starting in 5 min so didn't have time to reply in the right thread. :drunk:

Thanx Jimmy. Yes, I found that control panel as soon as I installed the 1800. At the time, I just thought there was a more "mixer" type one, like the 800. I already changed the latency to "lowest latency".

It's good to know that the 1800 drivers are ASIO. Pretty sure I'm good to go.

Thanx.
